Shri Brahmadaru Smarami,

Dear Swee,

I would sure love to hone my limited knowledge of Sanskrit with you. It is a good learning experience for me. I am unsure of my internet access in the next month or so. But from August I should be able to have it once again. And I will surely write then. Meanwhile I will work on vaidurya and whatever other words you have on the list. I have one more suggestion for you and Partha for Gajapati. I was thinking that while I am attending the conferences, I will choose one paper or one astro principle that was discussed in a day which was interesting and post it to and Gajapati. Like an astro notebook, and in that way I would feel that I am carrying all of you with me in the conferences. If there is nothing interesting I wont write. And of course, internet access withstanding. If it is ok by you and Partha, I will do it.

Best regards,

Sarbani

Dear Sanjay ji, Sarbani and those in the know J,

Namaste

On the discussion on RATNA versus UpaRATNA, let’s refer to Garuòa PurÄëa Chapter 70, slokas 7-8

I need your honest opinion and translation especially on sloka 8.

Meaning: some of the rubies are associated with the earthy red ochre (colour; as in guïjÄ berry); vermillion, red lotus, saffron; some have the colour of lÄkña juice. Although the re colour has uniformity, the centre has a special manifest brillliance which makes the ruby self luminous.

Meaning: Some of these rubies which appear to be the same as that of the lÄkÃ±Ä hue (in close proximity) are also endowed with the all good qualities of the ruby that reflect and refract the rays of the Sun, illuminating all the surrounding objects.

Sarbani, I will write a list of which I will require the root words to them. These will help me immensely in identifying what those gemstones are. Do let me know when you can spare sometime.

Much appreciated.

Love,

Swee
