Sun Rules Day and moon rules the night, whereas the state of universe is 'as it is' during the whole day. Each tatwa has the ruling planet. Aa per Brihat Jataka Chapter 2 Sloka 6 Agni - Mars Akash - Jupiter Earth or solid state - Mercury Liquid - Venus Air-Saturn As the Universe consist of these tatwa, we need all these tatwa for day and night. Hence, these planets take the rulership during day and night. Whereas, the luminaries, Sun and Moon rules the day and night as a whole. In addition, the gender state changes for the tatwa planets. So, the dhakshayana mars house and Uttarayana mars house will have the opposite effects like the day and night. Regarding other questions I need to study more and I will come back. Dear Karu, Can I try to explain it? If the planets are ordered from fastest to slowest, and ordered starting from Sun, the order is Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars. Since Sun represents Atma, it is the lord of the first hora (1/24 portion) of the first day of the week at sunrise. The next hora is owned by Venus, then Mercury and so on. If you continue this, then the 25th portion (start of the next day) will be owned by the 4th planet (3*7 + 4 = 25) from it. So, starting with the Sun that owns the first hora of of the first day of the week, the days of the week are owned by Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Once you construct the hora chart as Gurudeva has given above, the order of the days of the week can be determined by looking at the planet which owns the first hora after sunrise of subsequent days from Sun (i.e. the first column). I do have 2 questions about this. First, why is the order of the weekdays related to the order of the dweepas. The only thing I can think of is that since the dweepas give you adjacent portions of the bha-chakra, they will relate to adjacent days of the week. Now just keep repeating the names of the planets and every 25th name shall start a new day. Since there are 7 planets involved, this will be the 4th (25 -21). Thus Maharishi Parasara teaches the importance of the Hora as being the crucial starting point for Jyotish time estimates. The starting Hora of the day becomes the Lord of the day, the starting Hora of the month becomes the Lord of the month, the starting Hora of the year becomes the Lord of the year... This will automatically lead us to the next question. How does the Month and year start? i.e. how do we calculate this? This will be examined in the Next lesson.
