However, I will attempt to say something based on experience and observation. I hope this will stimulate a discussion on the topic from learned participants. My opinion is that Kundalini shakti, is indicated by Rahu and Ketu, the Sarpa Drekkanas and the 8th house (22nd Drekkana, 64th Navamsa, etc). Kundalini awakening, if we understand it at all, and I'm assuming here that the kinds of experiences that people report from intensive meditation are related to it, can be very confusing, drastic and painful or can be very smooth and beatific. Literature and writing on yoga report both kinds. Malefics would bring one type of experience and benefic influences the other. The AK planet and influences on it should also be examined. My opinion, and again a mere opinion, the Drekkana and Trimsamsa have to be examined for Kundalini. Any part of the chart where the Serpent resides is important, for he has to be activated, and the 8th house and all his associations, as well as the nodes should be looked at. It is also important to examine the influence of the above mentioned planets on the Moon. If the Moon has many malefic associations then it can bring the person to the brink of insanity for it will unhinge the mind temporarily. From the point of view of the tattwas, it should mean and often does mean, a very strong influence of Vayu/Akasha tattwas. We all know that intense meditation can cause Vata derangement and this is the reason why. Vata is composed of Vayu/Akasha and too much of that anchors the person in space, hence the spaced out feeling that some people experience when they overindulge in meditation. We have seen plenty of causalties of excess meditation in the West in the past 20 - 30 years. I have seen some of those charts and I am basing my conclusion on my observations. I have no guidance from the sacred books. Yes, D-20 should be involved for it shows spiritualy in general and especially the fruit of different dasas/bhuktis. You should use N-dasa in D-20. Since Drig Dasa is specific to spiritual initiations and periods for spiritual progress in life, you should use this in any work you do on the subject. For instance, I was initiated in mediation in the Drig dasa of Scorpio. I have A5, Mantra pada in Scorpio. That's a different topic but it might be an important dasa to use in research. You should search the database of both lists to find the important e-mails/discussions on Drig dasa. Narasimha, as always, did some excellent coverage of this dasa some months back and I just found some of the references. For instance, I started Drig dasa of Libra (12th house) in 3/1999 - 3/2003. I hadn't been too active with my Guru for past 8 years and was into family life and having children, etc. Since Drig dasa of Libra started (Ketu and kashta pada (arudha of 8th) both in Libra) I've had a wonderful craving to be in His company and to do remembrance on the Holy Name and Form of Shri Radha/Krishn. All this has happened with wonderful zeal. /message/vedic astrology/3129 This post gives the addresses of some useful posts on Drigdasa. The following were also excellent tutorials on Drig dasa. Guest guest
JAYA JAGANNATHA! Dear Brendan and Frank, Namaste. Let me add some info from my previous exchange with Sanjayji on the Varahamihira list on this topic. It's probably in the archives as well, but I'm taking it from my hard disk: JAYA JAGANNATH Dear Gauranga, Depending on the stronger between the lagna and seventh houses, the Kundalini Shakti can be seen either from the Drusya or Adrusya half of the Horoscope. This division of the zodiac into two halves on the basis of Drusya and Adrusya and later into Solar and lunar Hora is very fundamental to Kundalini Shakti and the way the planets affect this Shakti. Another theory is that the Adrusya are stronger in male charts while the drusya is stronger in female charts, but this is a mere speculation of some astrologers and does not have the sanction of the Maharishi's. Kundalini Shakti recides at the base of the spine in the seventh house and rises in the reverse direction (Direction ruled by the Mokshkarak Ketu) through the sixth, fifth, fourth, third and second houses to the Lagna. There are the seven Chakra ruled by the seven houses starting from the Mooladhara till the Sahasrara. The fourth Chakra is in the heart Lotus in the fourth house. This is the sign CANCER in the natural zodiac and is the residing place of Maha Vishnu. Hence Cancer becomes the house of God or Vishnu. Similarly, the Mooladhara is the seventh house and is presided by Ganesha. Worship of Ganesha in the Mooladhara in a yellow square with the Prithvi beeja results in destruction of enemies. Conversely, the Nabhi (Navel) is in the sixth house and Brahma (Saturn's deity) sits here. Worship of Brahma can cause weaknesses and enemies. The sadhaka has to be very careful during this phase. The fifth house or the Chakra in the solar plexus is ruled by the Sun and the natural fifth house Leo. This is also the kavacha of the Chart and the giver of good health etc. The third is the Chakra in the throat and is presided by Saraswati. The second house is the Agya Chakra between the eyebrows and the Lagna is the Sahasrara Chakra. The planets from the Sun to saturn, but not in that order, control these seven chakra. Study samkhya shastra as given in the Gita with the knowledge of Jyotish to develop a very dep understanding of Manas, the five tatwa etc. Then the inner meaning of the Mahapurusha Yoga will reveal by itself. Those who are unaware, can visit our site and see the links page where you can go to the site having the entire Bhagavat Gita as given by srila Prabhupada. Hare Krishna Sanjay Rath > JAYA JAGANNATHA! > > Dear Sanjay Prabhu, > > Pranaams. > > > Kundalini Shakti recides at the base of the spine in the seventh house > > and rises in the reverse direction (Direction ruled by the Mokshkarak Ketu) > > through the sixth, fifth, fourth, third and second houses to the Lagna. > > I was meditating on Your description of the seven chakras in the seven houses. Thus the first seven houses (the night half of the horoscope) would represent the inner world, and the other half the outer world. > Now I really understand Krishna's statement in the Gita regarding the night of the self-realized men which is the day for the ordinary man and vice versa. Would this mean that those who have more planets in the first 7 houses, are more interested in innner search for truth? But how is it then that the 9th house is the Dharma Bhava and the 12th is the Moksha Bhava? SANJAYA: THE FIRST POINT IS THE TRANSLATION OF DRUSYA AND ADRUSYA. THESE ARE VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE PARTS OF THE HOROSCOPE. THUS, THE LAGNA IS INVISIBLE OR ADRUSYA WHILE THE SEVENTH IS VISIBLE OR DRUSYA. BASED ON THIS LOGIC, P.S. SHASTRI HAD TESTED THE POSSIBILITY OF TAKING THE BHAVA AS LAGNA CUSP PLUS 30 DEGREES AND SO ON. HOWEVER, IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHECK WHICH OF THE TWO LAGNA OR THE SEVENTH IS STRONGER I.E. DHARMA OR KAAMA IS STRONGER?? THE SPIRITUAL MEANING OF THIS STATEMENT IS VERY DEEP. IF LAGNA IS REALLY STRONGER, THEN DHARMA AND MOKSHA (FIRST AND FOURTH HOUSE KENDRA) IN THE ADRUSYA HALF WILL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN LIFE. IF SEVENTH HOUSE IS STRONGER, THEN KAAMA AND ARTHA (SEVENTH AND TENTH HOUSE KENDRA) IN THE DRUSYA HALF WILL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN HIS LIFE. ADRUSYA ALSO MEANS THE FRUITS OF WHICH ARE NOT VISIBLE LIKE THE FRUITS OF DHARMA AND MOKSHA CANNOT REALLY BE REAPED IN THIS BODY WHILE DRUSYA ALSO MEANS THE FRUITS OF WHICH ARE OBTAINED IN THIS LIFE LIKE KAAMA AND ARTHA. THIS DIFFERENCE OF DHARMA AND KAAMA IS LIKE SUKLA PAKSHA RULED BY VISHNU AND KRISHNA PAKSHA RULED BY SHIVA. The Srimad Bhagavat Gita is full of meaning. Your analogy is very true. The night of the spiritual ones is like the day of the Material people. As regards the second point about the ninth and twelfth houses, I think it has become clear that they function through the Lagna and Fourth houses respectively, which are the Kendras. Thus, the two most important houses are the Lagna and the fourth and their Karaka's SUN and MOON. Consequently Sri Rama is the Dharmavatar and Sri Krishna is the Mukteshwara of the Natural Zodiac... > Using the above classification, if applied to my chart. Rahu is in 7th, Ketu is in 1st. Ketu is Moksha Karak, so it's good in the 1st (Sahasrara). Rahu may get me rid of sensual pleasures, thereby also helping in self-realization. There is Sun and Mercury in the 5th, which is the Kavacha as you said, do I'm protected by purity and intelligence. Jupiter and Vanus is in the 4th (Anahata), so devotion to Vishnu may be signified (wisdom and love). Mars is in the 3rd (Visuddha). I have continuous throat problems. But how can this be, if Mars is Atmakarak and Yogakarak as well? I speak a lot (giving lectures, casting charts etc.), but my voice fails sometime. Is there any remedy for this? I have it since the beginning of Jupiter Dasha. But I have Moon in the 11th. Would this mean that my mind is still engaged in external things alsthough I strive for self-realization? > > Your shishya, Gauranga das SANJAY: Sorry, no personal charts now. Let us get the basics right. Hare Krishna Sanjay Rath And finally an article in the 1999 December issue of JN by Sanjayji, whicl also touches the chakras. Mantra Shastra is the science of Mantra. The word Mantra is derived [1] fro= m two words " Mana " or the mind that thinks and " Trai " or to protect. Thus m= antra is the science of training the mind to protect the self. As indicated= earlier, the human being is composed of three entities viz. (a) Atma (Soul= ) represented by the Sun and Atmakaraka, (b) Mana (Mind including the consc= ious, sub-conscious and other levels) represented by the Moon and Amatyakar= aka and © Sareera (Physical Body) represented by the Lagna Lord [2] or De= vatakaraka. The selection of the deity for these purposes has already been = explained earlier. The scope of the science is very vast having three major= divisions called Kerala (or Misra), Kashmira (or Satwika) and Ganda (or Va= ma Marga). It covers all religions [3] and cuts across all castes and creed= s. A mantra is a mystical formula composed of letters (or phonemes) and wor= ds that is meaningful to the initiated [4]. The creation of vac or speech h= as its origin in the Muladhara Chakra[5], which is the seat of all creation= and is lorded by Ganesha. The desire is from a primal impulse called para-= vac or transcendental speech. This desire has to cross the Svadhisthana Cha= kra (Navel), Manipura Chakra (Solar plexus) and Anahata Chakra (heart) wher= ein it transforms into Pasyanti and Madhyama to finally reach the Visuddha = Chakra (Throat) wherein it takes the form of audible sound called vaikhari = which has been categorized into 50 alphabets [6] of Sanskrit starting from = " a " (A) and ending with " ksh " (xa). Hence the alphabet is called " Akshara " . CONCLUSION The mantra is thus a collection of " akshara " meant to raise the Kundalini S= hakti from the Muladhara Chakra to the Visuddha Chakra in the first stage (= Bhu Loka) and either with or without a material objective in view. In this = stage the mantra is recited verbally in a rhythm called Chhanda. It gives s= uccess in the material world and fulfills material desires as well as all d= esires related to the Physical Plane of consciousness. In the second stage = (Bhuva Loka), the Mantra is meant to raise the Kundalini shakti from the Mu= ladhara Chakra to the Ajna Chakra (Center of forehead called the third eye)= and is repeated silently in a rhythm in the conscious mind. This opens the= third eye to super-consciousness whereby the knowledge of the past-present= and future are revealed as well as the manifestation of desires of the Men= tal Plane involved in the mantra. In the third stage (Svah or Swarga Loka),= the mantra is meant to raise the Kundalini shakti from the Muladhara Chakr= a to the Sahasrara Chakra (Situated in the cranium called Brahmarandhra in = the form of a white thousand petal lotus). Here the repetition is more of a= subconscious habit of the mind and continues in Transcendental state of me= ditation or while sleeping in the form of Ajapa Japa. The individual loses = the consciousness of the self and is completely unconscious of time and spa= ce, yet the mantra continues to lead him towards the penultimate goal (Nara= yana). These three have been explained by Brihaspati to Indra in the mantra= " OM BHUR BHUVA SVAH " . FOOTNOTES: [1] Source Yaska: Nirukta 7.12 [2] Some opine that the Lagna represents the Body, but this is incorrect as= the Lagna is only a point in the zodiac without a physical body. The lord = of Lagna represents the physical body. Parasara has clearly stated that the= Graha (Planets) represent people (animate objects) as they are living and = moving around. The signs represent inanimate objects. [3] Some authors have tried to restrict this to the most advanced Hinduism,= while others have added Buddhism and Jainism, but this is not correct, as = there are fine Mantra in Islam and Christianity as well. [4] Gurupadesatoh Mantra i.e. when the mantra is given by a guru it becomes= meaningful. Initiation into a mantra is very beneficial. Ekalavya the unsu= ng warrior in the Mahabharata did not receive the mantra directly from the = Guru Dronacharya, yet became proficient in the same. When mantra cannot be = taken from the Guru, then prepare an idol of the Rishi (Guru/Sage) of the m= antra and worship it. After that the mantra becomes very effective. If the = person is alive, then making his idol is prohibited. Ekalavya made this mis= take and ended on the wrong side (Adharma) in the Mahabharata war. Thus, pe= ople who cannot find a Guru should worship Sage VedaVyasa with the Mantra " = Vyam Vyaasadevaaya nama: " = [5] One of the Kundalini Chakras at the base of the spine in the form of a = Lotus. [6] These are 49 Akshara from " A " to " Ha " and " Ksha " . [7] Govardhana Parikrama refers to the pilgrimage of going around the Govar= dhan hill near Vrindavan whereby the pilgrims extol the virtues of Vasudeva= Krishna in protecting the devotees from the power of Indra who had sent pr= oblems and dangers in the form of thunder showers on the shepherds and devo= tees. Krishna lifted the entire Govardhana hill with His little finger and = all men and animals rushed under it for shelter. Indra was incensed with ra= ge and hurled the Vajra (thunderbolt) at Krishna. The Vajra was dissolved i= n the body of the Lord of the three worlds (Bhu, Bhuva & Svah) Who then lif= ted his gaze at Indra . Indra was struck with fear and his body started to = ache and break apart. He cried out for the grace of His teacher Brihaspati.= Sri Guru Brihaspati chided Indra for this foolish act and for not being ab= le to recognize Narayana in the physical form of Krishna and gave the remed= y " OM BHUR-BHUVA SVAH " i.e. the recitation of the Ekakshara Mantra (!) in a= ll the there Loka. Indra was cured. Pleased with his devotion, Krishna prom= ised support to his son (Arjuna).. Indra symbolizes the intelligence of a p= erson that is often misled by the Indriya=92s (Senses) to start believing i= n ones immortality. Thus, OM BHUR-BHUVA SVAH refers to the penultimate rule= rship of God (OM) in the three worlds/ states of existence and the ultimate= reality i.e. OM.
