Even, Mr.Karu and Mr.Gauranga das also expressed about not answering for the assignments. I think, we should try to understand the teaching method of our Gurudeva. He is not an ordinary teacher and he is not following the modern methods of easy spoon-fed teaching. He wants us to work hard and think. If you see starting from 1st lesson, he seldom answered our reply. If our answer is perfect, he replies and appreciate it. Otherwise he is not replying. That means, we are not upto his expectations. It doesn't mean that he is not interested in replying, or he is not having time or he wants to keep the answers as secret. No, what is his intention is, he wants us to dig the truth, the answer, either by thinking, rethinking or by reading more books or by constant prayer. Most of the time he gives hints and say think. Questions like, why luminaries have lordship of single house instead of 2 houses like other 5 planets? and why the outer planets have special aspects? are all still unanswered. These questions are in the back of my mind always and I look for the answers. I know that Gurudeva will not answer until one of us find the answer. But, he is there to guide us in all aspect. If we are nearer to the answer, he used to say,"you are much closer, think deeply". Even in the VRY exercises, when Mr.Gauranga das answered that the said native will be in the medical field, Gurudeva answered, "Yes, the native was the health minister". So, if he didn't answer, the simple truth is that we are not even upto the minimum level. So, we have to work hard, think and pray to give the wisdom. (BTW, knowing the answer and content oneself by not telling students is itself a tapaswi nature. This shows the contentment of our Gurudeva) This method is pretty difficult, but, we will gain more than simple teaching. This is purely my understanding of Gurudeva's method of teaching. I may be totally wrong. Coming to the assignment. When I first read the assignment, I thought, Gurudeva doesn't mean just listing the traits listed in the books or what we know about ourselves. He will not give such an easy exercise. That is not his nature. So something bigger and difficult one he wants. What is that I kept on thinking. Now, from his two replies, I know what he wants and it is not so simple. (See to understand his question itself it needs lots of thinking) What Gurudeva wants? First we have to list all the Guna of each sign. Like: Zodiac house 1: Aries, Chara rasi, Kendra, 1st Dharma trikona, Agni tatwa, Rajo Guna, Lorded by Mars and exalted sign of Naisargika Atmakaraka Sun. Like this we have to list for all signs. This is standard. But, for a particular lagna, when these signs become a particular Sthana, how these signs will influence the signification of that particular sign. For example, for Capricorn lagna Aries is the 4th house and how these Guna of Aries affect the significations like mother, education etc., What we have to do is to prepare a table. Column 1. The traits listed in the texts for each lagna Column 2. The house(s) representing this trait Column 3. Relate this trait to the Guna of the sign(s) Do you think it is simple? It is easy to do the Column 1 & 2. But, to find the correlation we have to think a lot. Before that we should think deeply about the various guna and when they are combined what will be the effect etc., Once we complete this exercise properly, then our first door to Jyotish will be opened. Now I know the question and I started my project on the answer. But, it will take time for me. (what I gave above is standard ones so no problem in it, but I am going to give example to support, I cannot say the following is correct. It is only an example to understand) For example, for Aquarius lagna. Trait:Self centered Houses: Lagna Correlation: Aquarius is 11th Kama trikona, it is full of desire and being tamasic it only thinks of his desires instead of acting like Rajo. Again, about the lagna assignment what I gave above is my understanding and I may be wrong.
