Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Sitara, Namaste I was trying to understand your comments on the 2nd paragraph of your mail :-( In the puranas, it is stated that if no proper shraddha is offered, the person attains ghosthood and will be forever suffering. The idea about offering the proper rites if for one's family benefit. It is said that when the ancestors are pleased, we will all get their punya. Love, Swee On Behalf Of sit_study Tuesday, September 13, 2005 12:04 AM [Jaya Jagannatha] burial/funeral Dear learned members, As per the hindu tradition followed in my state, after death, funeral is conducted (in olden days, dead people were burnt, but now in cities, they are taken to electric cremetorium) But some people, they say before death itself, that they should not be burnt after death and they should be buried. If parents are alive, then also, the dead person will be buried and not burned. Can anybody tell us,if the person is buried (how is it possible to do the " kriya karma " - taking ashes and dropping in water) If proper karma is not done, what is the impact. Thanks, Sitara
