Sanjay must've had my article on hurricanes, cyclones and rainstorms in mind. As I am not sure if giving the article here violates any copyrights, I am unwilling to post it here (the magazine may not be happy if I post it). It is quite long and appeared in the new year special issue of " The Astrological Magazine " from Bangalore, India (p.109-116). I will try to give a summary/paraphrasing when I get free time. I basically concluded that primarily ashtamsa (D-8) and secondarily akshavedamsa (D-45) of lunar new month charts show hurricanes/cyclones. I showed that arudha lagna of ashtamsa has an important role and we can time it with compressed Vimsottari dasa. If arudha lagna (AL), Venus and Moon are in watery signs in D-8 of a lunar new month charts and if malefics (Mars, Saturn, Rahu & Ketu) afflict AL in D-8, then a hurricane is possible. Planets afflicting AL in D-8 and D-45 can give it in their Vimsottari dasa. If one of those malefics is in a lunar or Venusian constellation, it is likely to give the rainstorm. This is a brief summary of the article. The research was only for rainstorms. I still have to convince myself that the same principles work for earthquakes. They probably do, but I haven't done detailed research. When there was an earthquake in Turkey in August 1999, AL of the lunar new month chart was in Virgo - an earthy sign - and earthy Mercury was in earthy Taurus. AL had Rahu and Ketu in it!! Vimsottari dasa of Mercury brought the earthquake. All this is similar to the examples I gave in my rainstorm article (Venus and AL in watery signs and Rahu and Ketu in AL, for example!), with " earthy " replacing " watery " , suggesting troubles related to earth rather than water. However, I would prefer to do a more thorough research, like I did with rainstorms. So, for now, I don't have a reliable method. But if you want me to answer anyway, here is my answer. > > > January 21, 2000 at 05:45:00 AM CET (-1:00) > Earthquake > > > Somogyvamos -- Long: 017E41'00 " Lat: 46N34'00 " > > The question? Will there be an earthquake or not? Comment 1: If Moon, Sun, Mercury, Rahu and Ketu are in samasaptaka (mutual 1st-7th) within an orb of 4 degrees (with Mercury, Sun & Ketu in an earthy sign!), it is extremely extremely extremely likely that a very very powerful earthquake (possibly even a series of earthquakes) will happen in the world and cause a lot of destruction. This may be deadlier than the one in Turkey last year. Comment 2: I made the lunar new month chart for your place. Lagna, Sun and Moon in D-45 are afflicted by Mars, Rahu and Ketu. That's bad. AL in D-8 is in Cp - an earthy/watery sign. However, AL has Sun & Moon and no planets aspect it (graha drishti). So I do not expect an earthquake striking the place you said where seismologists are predicting an earthquake. It may strike somewhere else. Rahu dasa in the lunar new month chart of Pushya masa (Jan 6) runs from Jan 16 to Jan 21/22. That is a bad dasa. Especially bad is Rahu-Mars bhukti that comes around Jan 20/21. Places where lagna in the D-8 of lunar new month chart (6th January 2000, 6:14:24 pm GMT) is in Leo will have AL in D-8 in Gemini ruled and aspected by Mercury and afflicted by Rahu and Ketu. Those places have a higher chance of getting struck. If lagna/AL is in Aq in D-45, chance is higher. However, please bear in mind that all this is based on half-baked research and hence it is unreliable!! With more research, hopefully oneday we will be able to predict earthquakes with confidence and reliability....
