Guest guest
Dear Moumita, I was curious and did a bit of reading. > The 'Amavasya' in 'Jyestha' is known as " Savitri Amavasya " . > This year savitri Brata will be observed on June 11th. Actually Jyeshtha _Pournima_ falls on June 11th. Although the Savitri vrata can be observed on Amavasya also, it seems to be more commonly observed on the Pournima. In South India, the vrata is observed during Surya’s Meena Sankranti. It is performed by women (who have not undergone upanayana) for the health and welfare of their husband and children. As such, the prayogas don’t seem to specify any mantras. They mention that the mantra to use is ‘niyama’, i.e. general restraint, for 3 prior nights. On the last day, Savitri is worshipped in the form of a Banyan tree, whose roots are Brahma, trunk is Vishnu, and leaves are Shiva. One who observes this vrata is watering this ‘Savitri-Banyan-Tree’. ajit sohamsa [sohamsa ] On Behalf Of moumitaray Wednesday, March 01, 2006 9:05 AM sohamsa Need information regarding Savitri Brata Respected All, The 'Amavasya' (last day of the dark fortnight) in the month of 'Jyestha' is known as " Savitri Amavasya " or " Savitri Brata " . Guest guest
Dear Ajitji, Thanks for the reply. I have searched the web for hindu panchangam. According to one source, Bat Savitri brato was in january 13th '06 and another source, it is in june 11th. I would appreciate if any one clear my doubt regarding the actual date of this brata to be observed.
