Savana days are for calculations of the full term of pregnancy (of a lady) as according to Narada Muni. Use of correct year length, though I am sure many will disagree. Chandrashekhar. Guest guest
Dear Swee, Narada samhita tells that it is also for predictions it says "Vidhirvidhaana" and "Streegarbha". I think I had sent the entire shloka to you some time back. If you want it I could send it again. I am more than sure that Narada does not prescribe any other year to be right for predictions in either Narada Purana or Narada Samhita. In the days when dasha were calculated by hand it was always a month of 30 days was calculated and a day was always taken from sunrise to sunrise which is the Savana day. That is why the traditional way of writing birth time in the charts is so many Ghatis and Pala after sunrise. This is what is called ishta Ghatis. Even the ancient method of days and months talks of 30 days making a month and 12 such months making an year. I am sure you will find that in all the Puranas too. Take care, Chandrashekhar. Guest guest
Dear Swee, I think you know that Hindu day is based on Sunrise to Sunrise, also called Savana day and averages 60 ghatis at equator. Even the local Panchangas give time from sunrise and not Sun's traversing one degree of zodiac. There is a difference of 4 minutes between the two, if my memory serves me right. That is why as one advances in age the difference is dashas of the two system widens. Love, Chandrashekhar.
