[Vistiji's Lecture on Gem Stones - questions]

Namaste VistiThanks for your feedback on wearing gemstones. I would like to share something about gemstones, especially corundums. The corundum family includes:1. Ruby2. Yellow Sapphire3. White Sapphire

4. Blue Sapphire5. Green Sapphire6. Green-Blue Sapphire7. Pink Sapphire8. Light and faint yellow sapphire10. Orange Sapphire11. Yellow & Orange Sapphires (Peach Sapphire) known as Padparadscha (very famous in Sri Lanka) 12. Yellow & Blue Sapphire As you see the same family of stones relates to Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter and Venus. This is dependent upon their chemical composition and color of light emitted. In that sense, white sapphires are related to Venus only and Light yellow sapphire could be said to have similar effects that Sri Hari has shared with us. It is unlikely that a white sapphire will have results of Jupiter. Similarly, you can use a Green-Blue Sapphire effectively for Mercury-Saturn combination if required. Padparadscha is a beautiful gemstone that happened to come to me on its own accord. Intuitively and through its colors, it is likely to enhance both Jupiter and Sun. It is clear that gemstones should not be tried frivolously. One should treat them with respect. I have seen people wearing the right gemstone but without proper worship, it usually will not get the desired results. I guess the same happened in your case and thanks to Sanjayji that he helped you overcome its imbalances. Before wearing, following is a must:1. Wash them with Gangajal or water kept in Copper vessel overnight (left open under the sky).2. In the morning, keep the gemstone in unboiled milk (preferably cow's milk)

3. Draw the Yantra of the graha on a Bhojpatra using Anar (pomegranate) stem.4. Worship the diety of the graha. Suppose if you need to wear an emerald, then please worship Lord Vishnu first. 5. Worship the Yantra and the Gemstone, at the prescribed time and date, facing the direction of the said graha.

While taking of a gemstone too, it should be done in the temple of the diety of the said graha. Let me share another thing with you. Recently I had prescribed an Amethyst to a person. He got the pendant made but whenever he would wear it, his head would spin. He brought the pendant to me and when I held it, it had huge negativity. If you are attuned, you can feel these vibrations with gemstones. Within a few minutes I could make out that it wasn't the gemstone, but the metal used around it.. was impure. He got it remade it in Sterling Silver and it suits him fine now. I agree fully that impurity of past people handling the stone, the metal used in encasing it, the muhurta of wearing it, does brings changes in the effects. Coming back to using Blue Sapphire for an Aries ascendant to strengthen Capricorn. I still wonder why would it not strengthen both Saturn and Aquarius too. This is still my doubt regarding your earlier post. Is there a way to limit its effects to a particular Rashi only? Thanks and RegardsAnujOn 12/12/06, Visti Larsen <visti wrote:

Dear Anuj, Namaskar

When i first wore a gem for Jupiter i fell sick within a week. To test

this i would sometimes take of the gem for a few weeks and then wear it

again for a week to see the effects only to confirm that i fell sick

again. This was a citrine at the time.

This happened to the extent that i gave up on wearing the gem and

wanted to give it back. At this juncture Sanjayji told me to keep the

gem in milk overnight. The next morning we then sat down and recited

the Brhaspati Gayatri whilst keeping the gem in the left hand and

covering it with the right (prasna marga).

The result was that i barely fell sick ever again whilst wearing the

gemstone. I learnt alot of jyotish and my trips back and forth through

conferences began. Since then i realized that the gemstone ALSO depends

on the devata who will sit in it, and a gemstone without a devata will

be like a house without any other occupant than the thoughts and

feelings of the one who previously handled the gemstone. Well.... i

fell sick with that.

Since then i always wear the gemstone on the day of the devata after

reciting mantras for that devata, thus imbibing the gemstone with some

auspicious 'bimba'. Has anybody written any articles on how to do this,

and do you always make sure to practice this yourself?

Yours sincerely,

Namaste Visti,

In your case, Jupiter is a friend of lagna lord and a lord of trikona,

so Yellow Sapphire is most likely to suit you.

In my case, Rahu is in the 9th with Venus for Mithuna Lagna. Jupiter is

in 5th house aspected by Mars (10th), Rahu (9th) and Saturn (11th

house). Though I have many gemstones with me, I cannot wear Yellow

Sapphire or Citrine. Major problems start almost immediately.

I usually take white sapphire for Venus and it is likely to strengthen

the Rasis Taurus and Libra, instead of Pisces, apart from the graha

itself. Can you pass on your birth details if you do not mind?

My point is when a graha is a functional malefic and an enemy of Lagna

lord, should we wear its gemstone? My thoughts and experience tells -

No. Now, when I read your mail regarding Blue sapphire for uplifting

Saturn for Aries lagna, I get this doubt. I am passing this message to

Sohamsa as well as to Sri Swee.. and let us see what all have to say on

this matter.

I'd really like to hear Sanjayji's comments too. Hope he isn't busy.

Thanks and Regards

Dear Bharat, Namaskar

One of the best examples is myself. I have Scorpio Lagna and Rahu is

placed in the ninth house. Jupiter is joined Mercury in the eighth.

Initially i wore substitute stones for Jupiter. I.e. Yellow Citrine and

then a Heliodore... never a topaz though. After wearing my first

gemstone i spent the next 2-3 years traveling around the world and

learning Jyotish.

Prior to this i had made some 'blunders' in my education and was left

somewhat stuck in this matter. I subsequently began formal studies

again.

Recently i began wearing a white sapphire (white for Pisces) and whilst

I'm happy with the effects, I'm also uncomfortable with some flaws in

the actual gem. I blame this on my recent inability to pursue some

traveling, but lets see.

Can you cite some experiences where you have tried to raise the

strength of Rasi through gemstones and not of the malefic grahas that

the gemstone represent? Or point out a relevant article in Jyotish

digest pointing out the same.

If you remember, in a last thread when Yellow Sapphire was suggested

for Rahu in Ninth, I had specified that Yellow Sapphire just does not

suit me and causes many problems. I also like Sri Sanjay Rathji to

comment upon the same and share his thoughts too.

Dear Pranav, Namaskar

I'm happy that you are learning from the lectures. Btw. the mantra is

normally pronounced: Om Gurave Namah|

I must ask, who is sushma gupta which your email id had

written

in

it?

o Pratama prasna

The wearing of a blue sapphire is to make Capricorn more prominent, and

thus cause the exaltation of Mars. Similarly for Venus in own sign in

sixth/eighth we advise Yellow Sapphire to exalted Venus, and make

Pisces more prominent.

o Dvitiiya prasna

When a kendra lord is a malefic its effects can become very auspicious

in a dusthana house and form a vipareet raja yoga. This is not so for

benefics. For example: Saturn in twelfth for Vrishabha lagna is an

excellent Vipareet Raja Yoga, but Venus in twelfth for Capricorn lagna

definitely isn't.... unless the person travels abroad.

This follows the general principle that malefics are

auspicious

in

dusthanas, whilst benefics are auspicious in trikonas. That way Mars in

twelfth for Leo lagna can prove to be a powerful raja yoga, but

jealousy from others may remain due to its aspect on the sixth house

from lagna.

o Tritiiya prasna

There could be various reasons to advise a gemstone for the

ninth

house. If rahu is joined the ninth house or lord, or aspecting, then no

doubt a yellow sapphire should be worn... no matter the position of

Jupiter. In fact, if such a gemstone is not advised the luck of the

person simply won't start. Instead the person will be running in

circles.

Now, if in a case the lord of the ninth house lords an

inauspicious

house, and is ALSO placed in it, we have a problem. Example: for Aries

lagna, Jupiter in twelfth can cause separation from father, as it is

also ninth lord. In such cases only advise the gemstone if absolutely

necessary to avoid a greater evil (rahu, saturn, etc).

Yours sincerely,

Dear Visti ji, Namaskar!

I had an opportunity to listen to your lectures on

Gem

stones, First of all I will like to thank you for doing the informative

lecture. It cleared a lot of doubts.

I have a couple of Qns:

1. Prescription

of Blue sapphire :

You mention for :

- Aries/Scorpio Ascendant if Mars is in 8H/6H OR

- Taurus/Libra Ascendant if Ve in (6H/8H) recommend Blue sapphire.

a. However

Aries is sign of debilitation of Saturn, moreover it is also a

Badhakesh. Is Blue sapphire still recommended?

b. Also

Taurus/Libra Asc what if Saturn is placed in bad house like 6H or 8H.

e.g. - Taurus asc – Venus and Saturn (exalted in 6H) in Libra, Is Blue

sapphire still recommended?

2. Strengthening

9th Lord:

Is it advisable to strengthen 9th Lord if it alongside owns one of the

malefic houses - 3,6,8,11,12?

e.g. - Aries Asc Ju lords (9,12) houses

Cancer Asc Ju lords (6,9) houses

Let me know when you get a moment.

Warm regards,

Pranav

Dear Anuj,

Namaste

Sterling silver is silver mixed with copper and is NOT considered pure. It

oxidises after sometime and one requires caustic chemicals to polish the metal.

because of the copper content.

Pure silver is 999.9 which Zambia was renowned for, though very difficult to

obtain nowadays and we need to re-assay it o obtain that purity.

One does not have to necessarily make a permanent yantra for the particular

graha. The suggestion from the Padma Purana suggests giving the gemstone away to

a Brahmin as an upaya. What is taught to me is the yantra for the deity that

presides over the gemstone. This is the yantra that is to be drawn and can be

washed off after the offering and yagna or the not so elaborate agni hotra.

Depending on which deity one wishes to invite, the mantra siddhi is according to

that. It is important that a good muhurta is elected for the purchase of the

gemstone, the setting of the gemstone and then the offering. In the less

elaborate method of installing, one can soak the gemstone in raw cow milk

overnight. In the morning, rinse off the milk with pure mineral water if ganga

jal is not available. The gemstone is worn during the hora of the presiding

planet on the day related to the planet though another option is to choose a day

that is friendly to that planet and choose the hora that planet can be exalted

in. Personally, this is my preference.

In the story of the Syamantaka " Mani " , the mantra/eulogy of Surya was offered

before the " ratna " was offered. The story has several meanings as we know, as

the recount of the story is variable depending on which energy is desired and

according to the " type " of purana.

Namaste Sri SweeYou are right Sterling Silver is only 92% silver. What I meant in my earlier post was, that the pendant was made with ashtadhatu but with a major flaw. We later found out while dismantling the pendant -that the guy had hammered a tiny iron nail in the pendant. Thanks and RegardsAnuj (Bharat)On 12/13/06, Swee Chan <sweechan wrote:

|OM GURAVE NAMAH|

Dear Swee ji, Visti ji and Anuj,

I have a yellow sapphire that I had been wearing for the last three

years. I had to remove it after my recent pregnancy because of

swelling in my hand. Can you recommend a good time and the procedure

for re-wearing it.

I am attaching my chart below.

Thank you

Regards

Jaya Jagannatha

Dear Chandrashekharji,

Namaste

............and nails are normally made out of iron. I think Anuj was trying to

to tell us that the gentleman had the ring set in 8 metals and that the

alternate suggestion of the amethyst being set in pure silver is the better

option.

Talking of which, I had a funny experience when I visited Kali Ghat. I wore an

amethyst ring (on my left hand; more an ornament, I guess) with many amethysts

set in pure silver with " eyes and hooks " and they are not soldered in any way.

Before I went, one fell out and I thought nothing of it. As soon as I visited

the temple and was going on my way to the RamaKrishna Temple (by the Ganges),

most of the hooks loosened and the gems fell out (though I have them all and

removed the ring) and I was left with my Green Tourmaline ring on my pinky. At

that temple, an unusual event happened. I was told to obtain tilak from Ma's

temple and upon request, the purohit gave me a 5 rupee coin instead until

Lakshmi told him in the vernacular that I was requesting for Ma's tilak. I got

both and more.

love,

Swee

Dear Swee,

That was an interesting thing that happened with you. Perhaps Maa was

telling that Amethyst in silver is not such a great idea.

Of course you know that I am more orthodox and prefer to restrict to

the ratnas indicated in ancient texts. I think Gold is suitable for all

gems whereas for silver one has also to understand the graha that it

relates to and find out its functional nature, for a jataka, before

setting a gem in that metal.

Of course, you know much better about these things and I could be

totally wrong.

Love,

Chandrashekhar.

Dear Chandrashekharji,

Namaste

............and nails are normally made out of iron. I think Anuj was

trying to to tell us that the gentleman had the ring set in 8 metals

and that the alternate suggestion of the amethyst being set in pure

silver is the better option.

Talking of which, I had a funny experience when I visited Kali Ghat. I

wore an amethyst ring (on my left hand; more an ornament, I guess) with

many amethysts set in pure silver with "eyes and hooks" and they are

not soldered in any way.

Before I went, one fell out and I thought nothing of it. As soon as I

visited the temple and was going on my way to the RamaKrishna Temple

(by the Ganges), most of the hooks loosened and the gems fell out

(though I have them all and removed the ring) and I was left with my

Green Tourmaline ring on my pinky. At that temple, an unusual event

happened. I was told to obtain tilak from Ma's temple and upon request,

the purohit gave me a 5 rupee coin instead until Lakshmi told him in

the vernacular that I was requesting for Ma's tilak. I got both and

more.

love,

Swee

Namaste Sri Swee and Sri ChandrshekharLet me share something about Amethyst with you. Most people consider Amethyst is a substitute gemstone for Saturn. It isn't a substitute. In fact, it is one of the most powerful healing gemstone available to us. Amethyst alleviates Saturn's ground realities and practicality to a more purposeful and wholesome action. It helps sensitive people become even more deeply spiritually sensitive. It can calm the wild passions within. Depression and mind can be stabilized through this. Over ambitiousness and self harm emerging from the same is also rooted.... I can go on and on... On a lighter not, do not prescribe Amethyst to the newly married! For Sri Swee experience, perhaps My Ma Kali is telling her not to wear an Amethyst. Maybe she does not need it. Silver is a better option than Ashtadhatu for Amethyst. In the case, I mentioned there was a problem with the making of the pendant itself. The pendant maker - for whatever reasons - hammered a tiny iron nail in the pendant. Well, the person wearing the new sterling silver pendant is much happy now and his head has surely stopped getting heavy and spinning. Thanks and RegardsBharat (Anuj)On 12/14/06, Swee Chan <sweechan wrote:

Dear Chandrashekharji,

Namaste

............and nails are normally made out of iron. I think Anuj was trying to to tell us that the gentleman had the ring set in 8 metals and that the alternate suggestion of the amethyst being set in pure silver is the better option.

Talking of which, I had a funny experience when I visited Kali Ghat. I wore an amethyst ring (on my left hand; more an ornament, I guess) with many amethysts set in pure silver with " eyes and hooks " and they are not soldered in any way.

Before I went, one fell out and I thought nothing of it. As soon as I visited the temple and was going on my way to the RamaKrishna Temple (by the Ganges), most of the hooks loosened and the gems fell out (though I have them all and removed the ring) and I was left with my Green Tourmaline ring on my pinky. At that temple, an unusual event happened. I was told to obtain tilak from Ma's temple and upon request, the purohit gave me a 5 rupee coin instead until Lakshmi told him in the vernacular that I was requesting for Ma's tilak. I got both and more.

Swee

Dear Anuj,

Namaste

Please continue about the properties of Amethyst. Where did you get the

information from? What people don't realise is that these are NOT substitute

(Uparatna) but actually do the grunt work much better without one having to

offer the elaborate rituals that is required of the Maharatnas.

I'm sending a copy of this to the Sohamsa List.

love,

Swee
