Dear swee,

The gemology is a science of very recent origin. While there are references to stones doing good, a lot of good infact, like that of Shyamantak Mani in the story fo Sri Krishna-Satrajit,traditionally, the remedies catered are mostly in the form of Mantra and rituals.

They have taken a nebulous turn with the advent of Yantra, which is basically a vamacara, the rituals of lower level involving sometimes hedioous practices. However, presently, the remedies of Yantras to some extent have been 'aryanized'. The likes of SriYantra are well recommended in later texts.

Coming to the remedies in the form of the stones, i never found a set of basic rules. I am not really sure whether they really exist and if anyone can give a reference. But, my understanding always is that it is safe to prescribe the stone of an afflicted (or badly placed) benefic, which will certainly do much good. (when I said benefic, i meant one for the particular lagna)

On the other hand, I am not too sure when one can prescribe a stone for a malefic, as a way of appeasement. I usually do not prescribe stones in such cases but ask them to take recourse to either mantras or in case of lazy lubbards, simple remedies from Lalkitab often give some respite.

In any case, it will be nice if you present here some basic principles of prescription of stone which can be used for future reference, as I have always found total negation also works for what has been prohibited -for eg., prescription of heera for cancer lagnites or neelam for leo people etc.

Dear Kishore,

Namaste

The statement in Suka Nadi on the Capricorn ascendant is very clear:

That Mars, Jupiter and Moon are INAUSPICIOUS.

Venus and Mercury are BENEFICIAL. Saturn is NOT Maraka lord while Mars,

Jupiter and Moon may prove as killers.

The statement speaks for itself and there is no further need to elaborate.

Jataka Tattva: III sloka 5

[When the lord of any house is in the 6th, 8th or 12th position or when a

house is occupied by the lord of the 6th, 8th or 12th counted from it, the

house in question is totally lost.]

The first part deals with exactly what you've mentioned - that in order to

alleviate the problems faced by a " functional benefic " which is badly

placed, recommend a gemstone that pertains to that particular funtional

benefic. The latter deals with exactly what I object to from Visti's statement:

That if the 12th lord happens to be Jupiter in this case, and it is well

placed, one can recommend the gemstone that Jupiter presides over.

Further notes:

The ascendant lord cannot become inauspicious imspite of his owning

simultaneously owning an evil house e.g. Taurus, Scorpio etc.The ascendant

lord's friends have affinity for the particular ascendant.

Taking Taurus ascendant as an example:

Venus is friends with saturn and Mercury and enemies with the Sun and Moon.

As Venus's moolatrikona is the 6th house and Sun is the karaka of health,

the watch word here is to time health related problems which Venus and Sun

preside over.

Functional benefics for this ascendant are the 4th - Sun, 5th Mercury, the

9th and 10th lord, Saturn (YK).Using dwisaptati dasa, besides Venus's period for

excellent RY, Saturn too

was very good. In fact, financially it was also a very good time for me.(Note,

Venus and Saturn are in parivatana in my chart).

More to say, but am rather busy until Monday.

love,

Swee
