Guest guest
||om brihaspataye namah|| Dear folks, I wonder if this makes sense to you. If not, please ignore. comments welcome. Allegorical significance of the abduction of Sita by Ravana in the ashram – my musings © When Maricha turned himself into a golden deer on the order of his King, Ravana : The golden deer represents the demonic sense tendencies turning itself into a form that wants to captivate and attract the blind sense-mind. The act is carried out at the behest of the demonic King of the senses (ten indriyas – Deva king Indra) who gets alarmed at the growing influence of the paramatman (Rama) and hence wants to reclaim his territory. © The golden deer flitting through the forest : The forest here represents the darkness of ignorance where the demonic sense tendencies have the freedom to roam wide and far. © Sita gets attracted by the golden deer and asks her husband to get it : There is a yin and yang in everyone of us, a purusha and prakriti in everyone of us, a male and female energy or aspect in everyone of us. The female aspect of us is our emotion and attachments which easily get lead astray by the demonic sense tendencies. In order to safeguard the feminine aspect, the purusha goes after these demonic sense tendencies. © Rama asks his brother, Lakshmana to guard the ashram and take care of Sita before going out to hunt the deer with his bow and arrow : Lakshmana represents the pure discriminating intellect which always accompanies the soul. When the paramatman goes to hunt down the blind sense tendencies, it asks the pure intellect to take care of the feminine aspect and also the body to prevent it from being engulfed in the emotional storm. © On being shot down by an arrow, the deer cries out in an anguished voice 'Rama' !: The demonic and blind sense tendencies have realized that only one thing is supreme: the paramatman or soul but still does not wish to go against the command of the demon king of the sense tendencies so it mimicks Rama's voice with the intention of firing one last salvo. © The Lakshmana rekha : The pure discriminating intellect knows that the soul cannot be destroyed but cannot risk alienating the female aspect so it draws a boundary and says that it cannot go beyond this boundary beyond which the female aspect is totally at the mercy of the demonic sense tendencies. © Ravana appears in the form of an old sadhu : The demonic sense king knows that once the pure discriminating intellect has left the body (ashram), it is the best chance to regain control of the body by enslaving the feminine aspect. But the boundary is there and the female aspect cannot be fooled so the demon King appears in the form of an old sadhu to deceive the female aspect and trick her into crossing the boundary. regards Hari
