Guest guest
||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Sourav, Namaskar Thankyou for this. This is exactly what i understood – Muladhara is between the anus and reproductive organs, and this is stimulated with the Siddhaasana posture. Best wishes, *** Visti Larsen For services and articles visit: http://srigaruda.com or http://astrovisti.com *** Sourav Chowdhury [souravc108] 30 November 2005 09:47 sohamsa Location of Muladhara (Adhara)Chakra - According to Swami Sivananda || Hare Rama Krishna || Dear Learned Members, Namaskar. I have been seeing quite a few exchanges on location of Muladhara Chakra. Some of the learned members are making their own translation of the tantra texts or adopting some other translation to prove that Muladhara Chakra is in Scorpio. However, we (atleast those who are not adepts or practicioners) should not depend on speculations and should listen to what adepts say. Below I am quoting a couple of paragraphs from a book Kundalini Yoga by Swami Sivananda, Founder of A Divine Life Society and definitely an adept. " Muladhara Chakra is located at the base of spinal column. It lies between the origin of the reproductory organ and the anus. It is just below the Kanda (definition below) and the junction where the Ida, Pingala and Sushumna Nadis meet. Two fingers above the anus and two fingers below the genitals, four fingers in width is where the Muladhara Chakra is situated. This is the Adhara Chakra (support) as other chakras are above it. " " Kanda: This is situated between the anus and the root of the reproductory organ. It is like the shape of an egg and is covered with membranes. This is just above the Muladhara Chakra. All the Nadis of the body spring from this Kanda. It is the junction where the Sushumna is connected with the Muladhara Chakra. The four petals of the Muladhara Chakra are on the sides of this Kanda and the junction is called Granthi-Sthana, where the influence of Maaya is very strong. In some Upanidhads you will find that Kanda is 9 digits above the genitals " In the Summary of Shat Chakras Chart (in the same book) it is written: " Corresponding to Muladhara Chakra (in the Shookshma Sarira) the nerve plexus in the physical body is (Sacral) Sacro-coccygeal Plexus. " From this it is clear that Muladhara Chakra is a Sookshma Chakra and it above anus. It is definitely not to be understood as a paper-thin plane but has some width i.e. is three-dimensional in nature. Being attached to the egg-like Kanda it is definitely above anus (as per direct writing of Swami Sivananda-ji). If that is the case, the Muladhara Chakra in Kaala Purusha's body is within Tula Rasi (may be at the fag end) but definitely not within the Vrischika Rasi. Ganesha is the presiding deity of Muladhara Chakra and we know that Ganesha sits in 7H (natural position for Tula Rasi). Further, Parasara says: Tula corresponds to Vasti (Basti) and Vrischika to Guhya. Phaladeepika gives:Tula to Basti and Vrischika to Prajanana (Reproductive organ-region). Now, in M-W Dictionary, Vasti(Basti) refers to bladder, lower belly, abdomen, pelvis. and Guhya refers to anus. Now if you kindly look at the pictures in anatomy (http://catalog.nucleusinc.com/enlargeexhibit.php?ID=7456 and other pictures of this site) you may find that Sacral region of the spine is above the anus and is falling in the Basti and not in the Guhya region. Swami Shivananda clearly refers to Muladhara being in the Sacral region (or Sacro-coccygeal plexus). If we go by his definition (and I am inclined to), Muladhara falls within Tula. Further support of Swami-ji's stand can be found from Devi Bhagavatam. Here is an online copy translation (the translator is Swami Vijnananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa): " The lotus that exists in the Mûlâdhâra, called the sacral or sacrococcygeal plexus has four petals, wherein are the four letters v, s', s, s. " (excerpted from http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/db/bk11ch01.htm) The same information comes from Shakti and Shakta by Arthur Avalon (http://www.sacred-texts.com/tantra/sas/sas29.htm). The sacrococcygeal plexus is where the sciatic nerve arises. One can thus locate where the Sacrococcygeal plexus is located in this diagram (http://catalog.nucleusinc.com/enlargeexhibit.php?ID=4461) .. I am not a biology student, but judging by the references to Muladhara Chakra and a litte research on meaning of terms, I am in favor of Tula being the location of the Muladhara. This is to my understanding. I hope this contributes something to the discussion. Best wishes, Sourav =====================================================
Guest guest
|| Hare Rama Krishna ||Dear Hari-ji, Namaskar. Sanjay-ji is very right to forbid his students not to meditate on Muladhara Chakra. If the Chakras above it are not purified (i.e. Sushumna is not open, the Kundalini after rising for a certain distance through Sushumna will return and hit Muladhara and cause violent experiences of lust etc. emotions which one is unable to handle. The reason is very crisply given by Swami Vivekananda: " The great danger of psychich powers is that man stumbles, as it were, into them, and knows not how to use them rightly. He is without training and without knowledge as to what has happened to him. The danger is that in using the psychic powers, the sexual feelings are abnormally roused as these powers are infact manufactured out of the sexual center. The best and safest way is to avoid psychic manifestations, for they play the most horribly pranks on the ignorant and untrained owners." (excerpted from Complete Works: http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info/vivekananda/volume_6/notes_of_class_talks_and_lectures/lessons_on_raja-yoga.htm)Elsewhere he writes again: " During meditation, suppress the emotional side altogether. This is a great source of danger. Those that are very emotional no doubt have their Kundalini rushing quickly upwards. But it is as quick to come down as to go up. And when it does come down it leaves the devotee in an utter state of ruin. ...when it (Kundalini Shakti) traces back its course, it rouses violent lust in the individual..(etc)." (excerpted from the Complete Works/Volume 7)OK so much for rising of Kundalini. As for where to start the Ayanamsa from, I will not give any opinion. I am told by my Guru to use Lahiri Ayanamsa till this ayanamsa debate progresses and finds a suitable alternative. But the fact that Muladhara is not in Vrischika is clear. I am not sure why you suspect Muladhara to be in Virgo. To my understanding, Muladhara of Kalapurusha is where it is i.e. in Libra. If we keep changing Muladhara location with useable ayanamsa, then Parasara's teachings will not be applicate. We fix ayanamsa to gauge the current status of Prakriti (so to speak) and should not change Muladhara of Kalapurusha. At different periods of time, the energy of activity is situated in different plexuses in different proportions. Our body is a microcosm and a replica of the Macrocosmic Nature. The centriod of the temporal energy distribution is what ayanamsa refers to. It can vary from time to time. It doesn't have to change the so called locations of the plexuses themselves. It is my understanding (and hence certainly disputable). Please post/copy/refer to my e-mail if you wish, and if it helps, to any other list. I didnt want to write anything in VA list for one whole year due to the unusual waves of animosity that prevails there. I hope you understand.Best wishes,Sourav====================================================== sohamsa , Jyotisa Shisya <achyutagaddi@g...> wrote:>> om namo bhagavate venkatesaaya> > Dear Sourav,> > Good email from you. Guest guest
|| Hare Rama Krishna || Dear Sri Sourav, Namaste, Some of the learned members are making their own translation of the tantra texts or adopting some other translation to prove that Muladhara Chakra is in Scorpio. None of us(I, Pradeep, Narasimha & Chandra Hari) had mentioned that mooladhaara is " in " Scorpio! Narasimha had clearly written he " understands if someone palces mooladhaara in Scorpio but still disagrees " ! I haven't explicitly mentioned my position yet! You will know my position soon. Please do not pre-judge us. However, we (atleast those who are not adepts or practicioners) should not depend on speculations and should listen to what adepts say. Below I am quoting a couple of paragraphs from a book Kundalini Yoga by Swami Sivananda, Founder of A Divine Life Society and definitely an adept. " Sri.Narasimha had mentioned a verse which sounds similar to what you have written was posted on VA list. Can you please repost the verse? Fingers? You mean " anguli " ? BTW, how would you define and locate " origin of reproductory organ " / " root of reproductory organ " ? " Kanda: This is situated between the anus and the root of the reproductory organ. It is like the shape of an egg and is covered with membranes. This is just above the Muladhara Chakra. All the Nadis of the body spring from this Kanda. It is the junction where the Sushumna is connected with the Muladhara Chakra. If it is speculatory, please ignore. Where does Vasti/ Basti start and where does it end? Techinically area below navel/ naabhi is called Vasti. warm regards, Vishnu -- Om Akhanda mandalaakaaramvyaptam yena charaa charamtatpadam darsita yena tasmai sri gurave namah
