Guest guest
Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudavaya Dear Sanjayji and All, Thank you for posting this fascinating article on Ardha Nadiamsa. I had a couple of questions regarding calculation of ardha nadiamsa graha and vighati graha. 1. In calculating ardha nadiamsa graha and janma vighatika graha, the number is always rounded UP to the next integer. This is my understanding from Jaimini's Sutra 8 which states: " The remainder is to be increased to the next higher integer. " So regardless of whether the remainder is greater than 0.5 or less than 0.5, the remainder is always rounded UP to the next integer. Is this correct? This would make sense in cases where the integer is zero. For example, if the graha is at 0:00 degrees (00 degrees, 00 minutes), the remainder is zero, so the ardha nadiamsa can only be rounded UP to 1. 2. Is there a quicker, easier way to convert minutes and seconds to fraction-of-an-hour in decimals when calculating vighati graha? I have been converting hrs/min/sec to total seconds and then dividing total seconds by 3600 (number of seconds in an hour) to convert hrs/min/sec to a decimal. I am using the following formula: (hours x 3600) + (minutes x 60) + seconds = total seconds Total seconds divided by 3600 = hours and fraction-of-an-hour expressed as decimal. Is this formula correct? Or is there an easier " shortcut " way to calculate this? 3. My understanding is that vighati graha is calculated from the time elapsed between sunrise/sunset and birthtime in hours, whereas ardha nadiamsa graha is calculated directly from the degree of the graha. The vighati graha cannot be calculated directly from the degree of the lagna, but only from the time between sunrise (or sunset) and the birth time. Is this correct? Example for Vighati Graha Calculation: Sunset is at 18:48:31. Birth time is at 1:43 AM (next calendar day). Birth time from sunset is 6hrs, 54 min, 29 sec, or 6.908055556 hours. 6.908055556 hrs x 150 = 1036.208333 (BTV) 1036.208333 (BTV) divided by 9 = 115.1342593 Remainder is 0.1342593 x 9 = 1.208333 1.208333 is rounded UP to 2. Vighati Graha is Moon. Is this example correctly calculated? Thank you for your reply to my questions. I wanted to make sure that my calculations are accurate before examining results. Please correct any errors I have made in calculations or in understanding. Thanks! :-) Best Wishes, Susan
