Almost all who have not been If you say that my foundation of Jyotish is weak, I will not argue. But, if you say that everyone who counts horas from sunrise has a weak foundation, you are only being hasty. Almost every scholar I have read uses sunrise and not 6 am LMT as you do. > taught this from the basics falter in these points. When you ask them to > define the day on the basis of sunrise for the poles, they say that they > need to think when they know for sure that there is nothing to think..they Sanjay, I absolutely do not appreciate this. Because you think that there is nothing to think about here, you hastily conclude that I also " know for sure that there is nothing to think " . Do I " know for sure " that there is nothing to think about here? No way! First, is hora a fixed measure of time or a variable measure like solar days and lunar days? Is Ghatika a fixed or variable measure? If a day is 6 months long in a place, can't horas simply be 1/24th of it? After all, horas depend on the place. If sunrise is taken as the start of the day for most purposes, why should a new weekday start at 6 am? Why not at sunrise? Why different definitions for different purposes? If you want hora to be a fixed measure, so be it? But what about a weekday? And, weekday and horas have to be aligned. All these and many other issues are worthy of pondering over. If you think you found Truth, so be it. But, you are absolutely wrong to suggest that I know that there is nothing to think about and I am being insincere when I say that I will think about it. > cannot define the day on the basis of sunrise once in six months.
