THE SAPTAMSA CHAKRA- PROGENY

By

Sanjay Rath

Indian

Society has come to be plagued by the great evils of female feticide and

infanticide. Before consulting a doctor for sexual determination and then,

blindly heading for an abortion, the expecting parents are well advised to

consult an astrologer.

2.The FIFTH HOUSE

It

delves into the prospects for good progeny or its denial. The fifth house, its

lord, planets posited and aspecting it and Guru, the Putrakaraka are to be

examined as per canons on this subject (Details have been summarized by Dr.

B.V. Raman in “How to judge a Horoscope” or ‘Crux of Vedic Astrology’ by

S.Rath.)

3.THE SAPTAMSA

The

Saptamsa is the one-seventh divisional chart wherein each Amsa (part) measures

40 17’8.57” of arc. For odd signs the seven divisions are counted

from the sign itself and for even signs, the count begins from the seventh

Rasi. The Saptamsa is consulted for details of procreative ability as well as

progeny. This article is restricted to progeny only.

4.SEX

DETERMINATION

There

are certain simple rules that govern the sex determination of the children.

4.1     For a male nativity, the

first child is determined by the lord of the 5th house from Saptamsa Lagna,

whereas for a female nativity, the first child is determined from the lord of

the 9th house from Saptamsa Lagna.

4.2

    For a male nativity, subsequent

children are determined from the lords of every 3rd house from the fifth, in

direct order, i.e. the second child 7th house lord third child from 9th  house lord and fourth child from 11th house

lord and so on whereas, for a female nativity, subsequent children are

determined from the lords of every 3rd house from the ninth, in reverse order.

i.e. the second child from 7th house lord, third child from 5th lord and fourth

child from 3rd lord and so on.

4.3

A male child is predicted, if the lord

of the child is,

(a)

placed in an odd sign or, Cancer or  Pisces

OR

(b)

exalted or conjoins exalted planets, or

©

conjunct the Sun, Jupiter, Mars or Rahu (considered male

planets).

4.4     A female child is predicted, if the lord of

the child is,

(a)

placed in an even sign, Gemini or

Aquarius, OR

(b)

debilitated or conjoins debilitated

planets, or

©

conjunct the Moon, Venus, Mercury, Ketu

(Considered feminine planets) or Saturn (Napumsaka

also)

4.5

The sign occupied by the 5th,

7th etc Lords should be treated as the Lagna of individual children.

Take the lord as the Lagna of specific children and predict fortune as per

dasa’s.

4.6     Timing

the birth of Children

(a)

Birth, of children takes place during the

dasa of planets having Argala on Saptamsa Lagnesh.

(b)

Individual children are predicted during

the antardasa of the lord of the child, its depositor or the lords of the

3rd/8th from the Lagna (as mentioned earlier). In case of a conflict

between  the indications of the saptamsa

of expectant father and mother, the results should be predicted from the male horoscope(This

rule has also been proved by genetics wherein it is an established fact that

the sex chromosomes are only determined by the male)

©

Generally, a male child is born in six

Rasi comprising the kendra/kona from

Janma Rasi of saptamsa of father, i.e. the Janma Rasi of the son is the 1st,

4th, 5th, 7th, 9th or 10th from saptamsa Rasi of the father.

(d)

Generally, a female child is born in the

remaining six Rasi i.e. 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, or 12th from the saptamsa

moon of the father.

5.CASE studies

Case 1: Male born on 12 November1934, Cuttack, India

5th Lord in Rasi,

Mercury has gained 3 Amsa and is placed with 3 planets. The native has

three children.

5th Lord from Saptamsa

Lagna, Mercury, is placed alone in Dhanus. The first issue is a son who

works in a telecommunication company. Since Mercury is in the 12th from

Lagnesh Saturn, he is settled in a foreign country. He was born during

Rahu-Merc-Venus in Vrischik Rasi Kendra to Simha-Saptamsa moon.

7th lord sun

is exalted in Mesha. The second issue is also a son who is employed in the

Govt. He was born in Rahu-Merc-Guru in Kumbha Rasi.

9th Lord Venus is

exalted in Pisces, and conjoin Ketu. In spite of Ketu the two other

factors predominate and the 3rd issue is also a son involved in the export

of prawns(Ketu). He was born during Rahu dasa Ketu antardasa in Simha Rasi.

Case:2        Male

born 7 May1963, 11 a.m. at 25N5, 85 E25.

3 planets aspect the

5th (Rasi drishti) as the 5th Lord in debility gains 7 amsas. The native

has 3 lssues (2 Surviving)

Sun, 5th Lord in Saptamsa,

is alone in Virgo showing the 1st issue that was lost few months after

conception as the fifth lord going to the sixth house shows early death of

child.

Venus, 7th lord is in Kumbha and 2nd pregnancy

is a daughter.

The 9th lord Jupiter is

in Sagittarius, but conjoins debilitated Rahu and Mercury. Thus the third

issue as foretold, is a daughter. [All other astrologers had said boy as

the Dasa was of Jupiter, but the results were different.]

The native wanted to

try for a son again, but was advised against it since the 11th lord Saturn is alone in Capricorn and,

this issue too would be a female.

It

maybe noted that from the case histories it will be seen that a conjunction

dominations placement unless the lord is exalted or debilitated.

Dear Sanjayji,

This is very important lesson, thank you!

I still have a few questions, after having examined your books.

You cleared that the 1.st child is determined from the 5.house

in male's satpamsa

and 9.th house in female's saptamsa. What about odd/even sign rising?

If odd sign is rising in saptamsa, the count is regular. But if an even

sign is rising in saptamsa

don't we look 9.house(reverse count)for the first child of a

male, and 5.house(9.place)

in the case of female(reverse count)? Please clear this doubt!

A friend of mine who was born in India Bombay, in 1971, whose birth

time is very correct,

has a Pisces Lagna rising saptamsa. Both 5.house lords and 9.house lords

indicate first male

child, and he has a female child.Chandra lord of the 5.house is in

6.house in Leo(alone) and

mars, lord of the 9.house is in 10.house(saggitarius).There were no

pregnencies before the child

birth. THere are two possible situatuions:

1.If we look at the 9.house(pisces lagna -even sign) then mars as a

lord of 9.house(reverse)

count would be in saggitarius(male ) without any other

planets. However, there is rahu in scorpio(neecha)

in 9.house that could give a female?!

2. There is Parivartan yoga between lagnesh and lord of 3.house. Lagna

is pisces with exalted venus, and

guru is with ketu in 3.house.Both are in even signs, which doesn't

change the order of counting. Since there

is parivartan yoga, could we count pregnancies from Paka Lagna(guru)? In

case we count from Paka Lagna,

taurus reverse count, than we get capricorn in 9.house(the first

child) with saturn in it,that could give female.

Fifth house from taurus(paka lagna) in regular count is virgo, whose

lord is mercury in libra(son).

SO the only solution in first pregnancy(female)I can see in either

taking into account a planet in 9.house as

stated under1. or counting from paka lagnesh(guru) due to a parivartan

yoga, as stated under 2.

It is a Male chart, and the birthtime is very accurate! Could you help

with this please?

Yours,

Zoran

2.THE FIFTH HOUSE

It delves into the prospects for good progeny or its denial. The

fifth house, its lord, planets posited and aspecting it and Guru,

the Putrakaraka are to be examined as per canons on this subject

5th house is lorded by Jup. (Chara and Naisargika Putra Karak) in

the 4th, which is Scorpio (not good, as Mars is negative for

children), and also Jupiter is in the 12th from Putra Bhava. Sun

in the 5th is also not very good, and Mercury is not very

fertile. Moon aspects from the 11th, not a good house. A5

contains Mars Atmakarak. I would say that these are not very

favourable indications for children.

4.SEX DETERMINATION

There are certain simple rules that govern the sex determination

of the children.

4.1 For a male nativity, the first child is determined by the

lord of the 5th house from Saptamsa Lagna, whereas for a female

nativity, the first child is determined from the lord of the 9th

house from Saptamsa Lagna.

Saptamsa Lagna is Virgo, and 5th lord Sani is there, Capricorn

holds Mercury, and there is a Parivartana between them, both are

infertile planets. Rasi dristi is by Sun and Ketu. Not very

favourable. Jupiter does not aspect Capricorn. Graha Dristi is by

Venus and Moon from Cancer. THis may help to some extent.

4.2 For a male nativity, subsequent children are determined from

the lords of every 3rd house from the fifth, in direct order,

i.e. the second child 7th house lord third child from 9th house

lord and fourth child from 11th house lord and so on whereas, for

a female nativity, subsequent children are determined from the

lords of every 3rd house from the ninth, in reverse order. i.e.

the second child from 7th house lord, third child from 5th lord

and fourth child from 3rd lord and so on.

4.3 A male child is predicted, if the lord of the child is,

(a) placed in an odd sign or, Cancer or Pisces OR

(b) exalted or conjoins exalted planets, or

© conjunct the Sun, Jupiter, Mars or Rahu (considered male

planets).

4.4 A female child is predicted, if the lord of the child is,

(a) placed in an even sign, Gemini or Aquarius, OR

(b) debilitated or conjoins debilitated planets, or

© conjunct the Moon, Venus, Mercury, Ketu (Considered feminine

planets) or Saturn (Napumsaka also)

If the child will be born, she will probably be a female.

4.5 The sign occupied by the 5th, 7th etc Lords should be treated

as the Lagna of individual children. Take the lord as the Lagna

of specific children and predict fortune as per dasa's.

Lagna would be Virgo with Mercury as Lagnesh.

4.6 Timing the birth of Children

(a) Birth, of children takes place during the dasa of planets

having Argala on Saptamsa Lagnesh.

Saptamsha Lagnesh is Mercury. Argala is caused by Mars and Rahu.

(b) Individual children are predicted during the antardasa of the

lord of the child, its depositor or the lords of the 3rd/8th from

the Lagna (as mentioned earlier).

So Antardasa should be Saturn, or Mercury, or Mars.

Do You mean here the 3rd/8th lord from Saptamsha Lagna?

There's a slight possibility that my girlfriend had an early

miscarriage in Rahu/Mars period.

The 2nd child would be signified by Pisces, aspected by Jupiter

and Saturn. Lagna for the second child would be Gemini, and she

would also be a girl (Jup. in Gemini). Maybe the birth shuld be

timed for Jupiter/Mars?

The third one would be signified by Taurus, Venus is in Cancer,

with Moon, so may be a boy, but Moon makes it doubtful. Aspects

are by Venus, Moon and Mercury. His Lagna would be Cancer.

Theoretically this child could be timed for Jup/Venus or

Jup/Moon, but Jup/Ven is almost over, and my wife is not

pregnant, and Jup/Moon comes before the previous child was timed

for.

I can't see the significations clearly, but my wife is also very

eager to know what is the time to plan the children for. We both

want two kids.

Pranaam Sanjay,

In the D-7 chart you enclosed, Rahu is not debilitated,

but he is with Saturn in Cp. Jupiter owns 9th and occupies

Sg with Mercury. There may be some discrepancy between the

charts you used when making the prediction and the charts

you enclosed now.

As Sat Siri ji pointed out, it is unclear whether you took

Mars or Ketu as the 5th lord in rasi. You talked about

debilitated 5th lord who gained 7 amsas. Only Mars is

debilitated and only Ketu gains 7 amsas. Who did you take

as the 7th lord?

Comments on the first native:

Second son has great raja yoga involving 1st, 9th and 10th

lords in 10th and the corresponding dasas are running!

Mercury owns and aspects 3rd from Ar. So the 2nd son can be

a good writer. Mercury dasa may be particularly good for

second son's writing activities.

The native is running Virgo's D-7 Narayana dasa since 1991,

as per my calculations. Are my calculations correct? If so,

won't the dasa of 8th house with Rahu in it cause a lot of

worries, tension and frustration on account of children?

Your sishya,

Narasimha

Dear Zoran,

sorry to be slow repying to you. I would not think Rahu/Ketu should be

exalted in Taurus/Scorpio for this purpose because these exaltations are for

Ayur matters, longevity, whereas gender would be under phalita matters,

where Gemini/Sagittarius would apply. For your example chart it is probably

enough that ketu and Guru are in a feminine sign, plus--i forget, but maybe

Guru also is dispositor of another feminine planet--not a necessity, but

adds to the feminine influence?

Be well,

Sat Siri Kaur
