I agree about Bill Gates' chart. Perhaps there are exception rules that are

not spelled out in Parashara?

 

Of the two charts I presented earlier, the first chart, the successful one

is the son of the second chart. It is interesting that the strong raja yogas

in the second chart occur in the 5th house. All her children have been

pretty successful, but her 3rd (chart 1) is spectacularly so. The 9th

contains the exalted 5th lord in exchange with 9th lord. The major

achievements of her son were also during the operation of her raja yoga dasa

periods.

 

Her sun is strong and well placed. Her moon is strong due to the exchange

with Jupiter and the aspect of exalted dispositor on it. So that cannot be

used to explain why she herself is not the experiencer of raja yogas. But as

I said, she is extremely contented with her life now.

 

In Bill Gates' chart the sun is debilitated but gets neecha bhanga. Would

that count as strength? The moon is in the 10th, but has no digbala there.

It is neecha in navamsa. It is 6/8 to Jupiter giving sakada yoga. Bill Gates

definitely has strong dhana yogas. Would that explain his success? A raja

yoga implies executive power. He seems to have been more the creative power

at MS. It is surprising, the 2nd ruler being debilitated in navamsa. It may

have implications for microsoft shares after 2008.

 

I have noticed that people with a debilitated sun have a need to achieve

public recognition and will put enormous efforts into this. Success at any

cost appears to be a reasonable statement of their motivation. I have also

noticed that people with a strong sun will take success almost for granted.

They are ambitious, but not at any cost. More in terms of achieving their

potential than in public recognition. Often it is because the father came up

from a difficult background, or because they need to prove themselves to

their father.

 

I have known a very successful photographer (vogue, conde nast as clients)

who has a debilitated venus. He is a perfectionist in his work and driven

obsessively to be the best.

 

A neecha planet in a chart that is strong otherwise seems to provide an

engine of motivation.

 

Having known some of these people closely, I am aware that they have often

sacrificed their personal lifes and happiness in their younger days to this

ambition, and are able to look at achieving some focus on their personal

lives only in later life after receiving the recognition they seek. In some

cases (e.g. venus in virgo) this has not happened even afterwards. There

always seems to be an element of doubt in their minds about their own

achievements, and they need outside confirmation to realise this.

 

It is almost as if planetary energies are like a filter on perception,

allowing only a selective interpretation of the facts.

 

Getting back to the rule, there seems to be a pre-ponderance of it being

effective where the person was in a political area - the area that

traditionally related to raja yogas. I would think that management/executive

positions in large companies would also count. I wonder whether achieving a

position in a company you set up yourself does not show up? In the sense

that you do not compete and come on top. Anyway, the US elections should

provide some interesting information.
