Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Jayatah

Few comments not on the chart itself but on the life of Bhakti Promode

Puri Goswami based his biography in The Art of Sadhana and few things I

learned from BP Hrishikesh Maharaja who is a sanyassa disciple of BP

Puri Goswami, when he was here in Zagreb this year.

>From the book: " <.......>Along with the study of sanskrit, he worshiped

the family deities of Sri Sri Radha Gopinatha. Once, during the winter,

he forgot to cover the Lord with a blanket. That night he himself began

to shiver uncontrollably with fever and chills. The Lord appeared to him

in a dream and showed him that He had been left without a blanket. The

young Promode Bhusan woke up and immediately covered the Lord, after

which his fever subsided.

Promode Bhusan completed his high school education in Baruipur near

Diamond Harbour and then went on to study chemistry at Bangabasi

College, Calcutta. In 1917, he met his Guru, Prabhupada Srila

Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami Thakura. From the first meeting Sri

Promode Bhusan accepted Prabhupada in his heart as his eternal master.

His strong attachement to spiritual life brought him regularly to his

Guru's lectures at the Calcutta ashram of the Gaudiya Matha. In 1923, on

the holy occasion of Sri Krishna Janmastami, he surrendered at his

Guru's lotus feet and received harinama and mantra-diksa. He was

thenceforth known as Sri Pranavananda Brahmacari.

Sri Pranavanada's service attitude was so exemplary that soon

Prabhupada Srila Sarasvati Thakura engaged him as the editor of Gaudiya

Math publications. Pranavananda Brahmacari would summarize Srila

Sarasvati Thakura's lectures, elaborate on them, and with Prabhupada's

approval, publish them in various periodicals including Dainika Nadiya

Prakasa, the world's only daily spiritual newspaper. In recognition of

his scholarship and historical researches, Sarasvati Thakura honored him

with the title, Mahopadesaka Pratna-vidyalankara. He served in close

association with his Guru for thirteen years.

<....>

In 1942, Srila Prabhupada Sarasvati Thakura appeared to him in a dream

and gave the divine order to accept Tridandi-sannyasa. Srila Prabhupada

has requested him to accept Tridandi-sannyasa earlier in 1933, yet

considering himself unfit he humbly declined. At this time he accepted

sannyasa initiation and its symbol, the danda(staff) from his godbrother

Srila Bhakti Gourava Vaikhanasa Maharaja at the Sri Sri Gaura-Gadadhara

temple in Champahati. He was given the name Tridandi Swami Bhakti

Promode Puri.

For more than seven years, Tridandi Swami Bhakti Promode Puri Goswami

Maharaja served as a head pujari and temple president of Sri Yogapitha,

the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu discovered by Srila

Bhaktivinoda Thakura. During this time the deities were internally

urging him to take up a more intense study of the scriptures and a life

of solitary worship and bhajana.

He moved to a humble cottage on the banks of the Ganges at Kalna in the

district of Burdwan, where he lived with his beloved deities Sri Sri

Radha Gopinatha. The King of Burdwan was extremely impressed with the

saintly character of the ascetic. On the appearance day of Srimati

Radharani in 1958 he presented Srila Puri MAharaja the large and ancient

Ananta Vasudeva temple of Kalna. He accepted this offering and engaged

in service at the temple for several years.

<........>

Srila Puri Maharaja was well known as the best kirtana leader in the

early days of Sri Gaudiya Math and often sang on radio programs. He also

gained a wide reputation for extensive knowledge and meticulous practice

of deity worship and the rituals for deity installation and temple

consecration. His service to Srila Sarasvati Thakura in these areas

resulted in his being widely known as Pujayapada.

Over and above his senior position and high qualificaions, many are

attracted to Tridandi Swami B.P. Puri Goswami by his divine personality.

He emanates sweetness and love. He is seen by them as a well-wishing

guide to the spiritual domain. The opening of the Sri Gopinatha Gaudiya

Math in Ishodyan during the 1989 Gaura Purnima provided a dorway to that

spiritual domain.. "

Unofficially, few things told to me by Hrishkesh M. was that he was most

humble personality you could find(I was told that by literaly anybody

who knew BP Puri Mj), in his Math most of the emphasis was on the Hari

Nama. When he was leaving his body last year he was all the time

offering prayers with folded hands to different invisible personalities

in different places of the room. Devotees could not fathom to whom he is

doing that. Only once he got very much excited and started telling to

the devotee: " Do you see!? Do you see?! " , ointing to a place in a room.

Devotee asked " Whom? Krishna? " . Promode Puri Mj answered: " No, Radha,

Radha! " So it seems that his beloved deities have appeared to him before

his disappearance and also probably demigods came to offer him their

obeisances before the departure of such a soul. He was truly a saint.

Was first president of World Vaisnava Organisation that loosely unifies

diferent organisations of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura's disciples

and their disciples. Everybody respected him. An like that.

humbly,

Zavisa

> Dear Jyotisha,

> Any comments on this fantastic chart? In the sapta Rishi Nadi, there is
