Agreed. Also learn the gotra of the planets. It shows that even if one

is adopted, like Mercury (Atri Gotra) the child of the Moon (Atri Gotra) was

adopted by Jupiter (Angiras gotra), his gotra does not change. Thus, the

Gotra has to do with the progenitor and NOT the pater.

The Maharishi's established the lineage so that the individuals can

easily identify their Kula Devata and have a better life. With the advent of

Kali, all this knowledge was lost except in Bharat (India). The appearance

of Krishna showed that the Moon will have a predominant role instead of the

Sun in the forthcoming period of Kali.

I was contemplating on Maharishi Parashara's statement that the Sun and the

Moon are of royal status. In the genealogy of the universe given in the

Srimad Bhagavatam we read about two royal failies or lineages emerging: the

lineage of the Sun (Surya-vamsha) and the lineage of the Moon

(Soma-vamsha). Sri Rama appeared in the Surya-vamsha and Sri Krishna

appeared in the Soma-vamsha. So the purpose of the formation of these two

lineages was to prepare the appearance of Bhagavan in these two forms.
