Dear Gauranga!

Hare Krsihna! Jaya Jagannath!

I am sure Sanjay Prabhu will give a proper answer. At the same time as he

suggested I want to take advantage of it as this list is for studying

Jyotish and a good way of studying is speaking and discussing. It makes you

better understand the subject. So here are my 2 penny I learnt from Sanjay

Prabhu and from Srila Prabhupada, as well as from my own realizations.

Please Sanjay Prabhu and everbody on the list make your comments and

corrections.

>I am now on the list. Should I send all my further questions here? I have

one after reading Yasomati Nandan's posting. I've seen in a few places

mantioned that we can determine the faith or religion or Ishta Devata of a

person from the chart. How is this working in actuality? Because we have

devas for the planets and Vaikuntha Avatars as well. So how we determine

whther the person will be a demigod-worshipper or a Vaishnava?

>Like I have Mars as Atmakarak, but I'm not attracted so much to

Nrisimhadev. I'm more attracted to worship Lord Caitanya (aka my name,

Gauranga das).

YND: Different planets manifest different energies which all originally come

from Krishna. And Krishna Himself manifests these energies more specifically

in His different forms or Avataras. So you can simply remember that the

original pure Martian energy is manifested by the Lord in it's form of Lord

Nrisimhadev. You will feel the influence of all those energies in your life

anyway and if you don't see Krsihna behind them then they will remain impure

and will keep you conditioned.

BTW Atmakarak has nothing to do with one's ista-Devata. As I could

understand the Devata principle is that which gives us light, that which

helps us towards liberation (personal or impersonal is up to you). So

Ista-devata is seen from the 12th from AK in Navamsa. It is a house of

liberation. If it is affected by any planets then those energies will

interfere on your way to liberation. So you have to do something with them -

either to worship the respective devatas who are ultimately all devotees and

will gradually bring you to the point of understanding Krishna. Or to

ultimately purify this energy in your consciousness by relating it to it's

original soruce.

It is great that you are attracted to worship Lord Chaitanya. Please give me

your blessings that I may also be attracted. So it is better for you. Srila

Prabhupada taught us the Lord Caitanya is Krishna Himself. So He is the

source of all incarnations. So He manifests all the moods of all

incarnations. If you speak of Lord Nrisimhadev, you can remember different

Lord Caitanya's pastimes where He manifested this mood - like his first

revealing Himself to Srivasa Thakura (refer to Caitanya Bhagavat, somewhere

Madhya) or story with Chand Kazi.

>Also there are other people, who are christians or moslems or whatever. How

does this fit in the Jyotish chart?

You can do this in the similar way like I tried to explain above. In one of

Sanjay Prabhu's books he gives the idea that for a Christian he can worship

Virgin Mary for Moon etc.

In general, as I understand what you can see from the chart by your naked

eye is the manifestation of your spirituality in this material realm.

Whether it has bhakti behind or not you can see only if you are a pure

devotee yourself - by the mercy of Guru and Krishna. " To that great great

soul who has implicit fatih in both guru and Krishna all truths are

automatically revealed " . I remember one of the nice answers to one of my

questions by Sanjay Prabhu, " By the mercy of Sri Jagannath I never fail "

So everything ultimately depends upon your motives, your sincerety, your

surrender, to some extent upon your efforts, and of course on Krishna's

mercy. The first three things you know better yourself. So you can sort

things out in your heart and see for youself. And if your motives are

bona-fide then just embark on the boat given by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu:

trinad api sunicena

taror api sahisnuna

amanaina manadena

kirtaniya sada harih

And let Krishna determine what results will be the best for you.

Jai Jai Shri Jagannath Om Ganeshaya Namah

Dear Sanjayji,

Dear Gauranga,

Sorry for the delay as I was preoccupied with work. Here's my attempt.

You wrote: I am now on the list. Should I send all my further questions

here? I have one after reading Yasomati Nandan's posting. I've seen in a few

places mantioned that we can determine the faith or religion or Ishta Devata

of a person from the chart. How is this working in actuality? Because we

have devas for the planets and Vaikuntha Avatars as well. So how we

determine whther the person will be a demigod-worshipper or a Vaishnava?

Answer: Our atma has an inherent desire to achieve something due to which

we have been reborn. This atma, till that desire is realised, will lurk in

this world and will be reborn. To know what God has in store for us and

whether he will permit that realization or not can be seen from the chart.

However, we have many obstacles in the path of such fulfilment or

realization to set the atma on course for seeking God. This is where the

role of Ishta Devata is very important. Now Ishta Devata is like our own

godfather or mother who will always help the person/child in achieving its

desires. Each one of us have an Ishta Devata who will constantly guide us

through rough times. How do you find out the Ishta Devata? See which is

the Atmakarak planet in your chart and find out in which rasi it is placed

in Navamsa (D9). The rasi occupied by the Atmakarak in D9 becomes the

Karakamsa. (1) The 12th sign from this rasi will indicate the Ishta Devata.

Look for any planet(s) disposited in it. If there is more than one

planet, the ruling deity of the stronger planet (in terms of degrees) will

indicate the Ishta Devata. (2) However, if there are none in such a rasi,

then look for aspects (only rasi drishti). The ruling deity of the

strongest planet aspecting this house will determine the Ishta Devata. (3)

If there no planets and there is also no aspect, then the ruling deity of

the Lord of the said rasi will have to be taken as the Ishta Devata.

Eg. If Venus is the Atmakaraka and is disposited in Taurus in the Navamsa,

then Aries becomes the 12th sign from Taurus. Now apply above points (1)

(2) and (3) and you will get the answer. Try with your horoscope and let me

know the Ishta Devata.

To determine whether the person will be a strong Vaishnava, the Lord of the

ascendant has to go to the 9th house (Dharma Bhava) to be a staunch devotee

of Krishna.

Gauranga das).

Answer: For this you need to consider D20 - Vimsamsa Chart to determine

bhakti and the Lord for such Bhakti. Obviously Mars not influencing this in

your D20. I presume it should be Jupiter who is strong and influential in

your D20. Please check this.

You wrote: >Also there are other people, who are christians or moslems or

whatever. How does this fit in the Jyotish chart?

Answer: Rahu and Ketu indicate other religions including Christianity and

Islam.

You wrote: >Another thing also interests me. Let's say we have a chart of an

unknown person. Exact birth data, time and place are there. How can we

determine the gender of the preson on the basis of the chart?

Answer: The Shiv ling is synonymous of the Shiva-Shakti - the male-female

symbolizm. Shiva rules the 7th house. Obviously, the gender of the person

will be determined from the 7th house which is also the house of sexual

desires and acts - the downfall of man (humans out here) where his animal

instincts are seen. Look for the influence of male or female planets and

odd/even rasis on the 7th house.

Hope this explains.

Regards,

Yours,

Sarat.

Namaste Sarat and Gauranga,

Planets influencing lagna and more importantly the 5th house (in D-20)

show the deity one will be inclined towards. Check the 5th house in your

D-20. There may be influence of Moon and Mercury (or Jupiter also).

> You wrote: >Also there are other people, who are christians or

This is the standard answer I heard many times. However, this has to be

put in perspective.

In an Indian's horoscope, Rahu's influence on marriage may show a

Christian as wife (e.g. Rajiv Gandhi). Rahu's influence in chaturthamsa

may show living abroad, among Christians.

However, it is unreasonable and illogical to expect billions of

Christians and Muslims in the world to have only nodal influence on

lagna and/or 5th in D-20.

An Indian with lagna in Ta and Mercury and Mars in Vi in D-20 may have

Narasimha as ishta devata. This may not be true with a catholic from US,

even if he may have the same rasi and D-20 charts.

The principles of Jyotisha operate within the constraints of " desa kala

patras " ! However, some analysis can be done regarding one's spirit in

religious pursuit, based on the gunas and tattwas of the planets

incolved.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha
