Guest guest
Dear Jaan, Namaste. > > if not, what would show the deity i am drawn to naturally? Ishta Devata is showing this. But remember that each planet influencing the 12th from Karkamsha may indicate several Deities. Like Sun there may indicate Surya/Rama/Shiva or some toher gods in other religions. I would say that in Christianity it would indicate the Father of the Trinity, etc. You judge by the particular qualities that the planet represents. Moon for example may indicate Krishna, or Balaram as well, or any Mother Goddess of other religions, or Virgin Mary in Christianity etc. Rules for judging: 1. Planets ocuppying the sign (in order of strength as pre Jaimini) 2. Planets aspecting it by Rasi Dristi (in the same order) 3. The lord of the sign. Guest guest
Jaya Jaya Jagannath, Daer Jaan, Me too had a hard time with this question. I think it doesn't. Any one could have any planets in 12th from AK, but still the natural drawn deity could be darkness. I have Ketu in 12th from AK in few vargas including D9 and D 60. So my ishta devata is lord Ganapati from last birth and still continue this life too. But my deity, selected my self was Laxmi & Sarasvati. When I was learn from Guru, I ask to worship Ganapathi, but My Guru adviced me pray for BK before reach Ishtadevata and still could not reach lord Ganapati. How ever I have a habit from last 10 years to start any Jyotish writing with " Sri Ganesha Namaya " ! The picture of lord Ganapati was always with me. How ? May be Sanjayji can answer this. Hare Krshna Karu >Does the 12th from karakamsa indicate the deity we are naturally >drawn to or does it show the deity we should be worshping to guide >the Atma? >Say if the 12th from karakamsa indicates Durga as the ishta devata >but naturally someone is exposed to Shri Vishnu worship by the >parents etc>>Leaving aside a planet in the 12th from karakamsa, can a planet that >aspects by rasi drishti the atmakaraka in both rasi and navamsa >charts indicate a deity we are naturally drawn to? >eg mercury aspects atmakaraka in rasi and navamsa, and is conjuct >with 9th lord in rasi and 12th lord in navamsa. Guest guest
JAYA JAGANNATHA! The favourite Deity is seen from 5th to D-20 Lagna. > Leaving aside a planet in the 12th from karakamsa, can a planet that > aspects by rasi drishti the atmakaraka in both rasi and navamsa > charts indicate a deity we are naturally drawn to? No. The principle is as above. > eg mercury aspects atmakaraka in rasi and navamsa, and is conjuct > with 9th lord in rasi and 12th lord in navamsa. Can this indicate > being drawn to Shri Vishnu? No. See 5th in Rasi or D-20. Also 6th from Amatyakarak in D-9 indicates Palanakarta, or the Deity who protects the native. The 9th from Karakamsha is Dharma-devata, i.e. the Deity that one worships as a matter of duty. So Sri Vishnu should be indicated in one of these. Please check the chart. > Does mercurys association with the 9th lord in rasi and also 12th > lord in navamsa make the case stronger for his influence on worship > habits? This is not specific. 9th in Rasi will be Guru rather than Deity, and 12th in Navamsha will more relate to meditation abilities. Guest guest
Hare Krishna! Please accept my dundavats. I hope this finds you blissfully happy in devotional service. Thank you, Visti, for clarifying the process by which to ascertain the Ishta Devata, and for taking the time to calculate mine! I am extremely grateful! Please forgive my ignorance about spiritual matters. I thought that Lakshmi is the consort of Lord Vishnu, and Parvati the consort of Shiva (?) Guest guest
Om Krishna Guru Sorry your perfectly right, Parvathi is the consort of Shiva, and Lakshmi of Vishnu, that was my blunder, however I always mix them up *laughs*. That would otherwise be a great offense towards my Ishta Devata who is Vishnu/Krishna, but he would take it very lightly, and forgive the way i should learn to =). You may take a look at my chart if you like: 21st Nov. 1981, 6:21 AM, Nairobi, Kenya. D-20 also supports the fact that my favorite deity is Vishnu. I do not yet know how to calculate the Char Atmakaraka. Please forgive my mistake! Find out the amount traversed by all the grahas _within_ its current sign. You can use the 7 planet or 8 planet scheme by excluding Ketu, or Rahu and Ketu respectively. Since Rahu is always retrograde, subtract its amount from 30. The planet with has traversed the highest number of degrees become the AK. (You may wish to read the lesson on Karakas in the files section on ). Gurudeva recommends the 8-planet scheme. For a long time, I have been wondering why the graha that has traversed more degrees is stronger. Why not the graha that has traversed the least, or the graha that is closest to the center of the house? Would gurudeva please answer this simple question! ajit -- Ajit Krishnan ajit@(julian|csd|engga).uwo.ca http://publish.uwo.ca/~akrishna
Guest guest
Namaste - One note worth mentioning... when Visti suggests "we must count backwards" for Rahu ( and Ketu).... it means that we take Rahu's longitude degree and subtract it from 30 degrees. So , if Rahu is just entering a sign due to it's retrograde motion it enters a sign at 29 degrees ( and some inutes and seconds , which we will not bother with for this example). So now calculating the various charakarakas ( Jamini as does Mararishi Parashara recommend the 8 Graha scheme which includes Rahu, as we are taught by Sanjay) we take 30degrees and subtract 29 degrees for Rahu...giving you one degree. Assuming this is the LOWEST degree observed/calculated for all 8 Graha's then RAHU would be Darakaraka. in the charakaraka system. Pls. review/refer to Upadesa Sutras from Sanjay, pp 6-10 for add'l info. Hope this assists you one the first day of Suryanarayana entering Makara, the 10th house of the Naisargika zodiac. Visti Larsen [vlarsen]Sunday, January 14, 2001 2:40 PMvarahamihira Subject: Sv: [sri Guru] Ishta Devata Om Krishna Guru There is the Naisargika(Natural) Atmakaraka: Sun And there is the Chara(Temporal) Atmakaraka, which is the graha with the highest degree. Rahu is the only planet who is always retrograde. Even though other planets may be temporarily retrograde, eventually they will resume normal motion. When we take the longitudes for calculating these karakas, we are essentially calculating how much of the sign has been traversed by a given planet. If a planet enters a house with normal motion, traverses one degree of the sign, and then becomes retrograde, we cannot say that he has traversed 29 degrees. This would not make sense. So, the amount of degrees traversed by the planet has to be calculated with respect to its natural motion and not its temporary motion. As a result, the retrograde exception only applies to Rahu. Please correct me if I am wrong. your sishya, ajit -- Ajit Krishnan ajit@(julian|csd|engga).uwo.ca http://publish.uwo.ca/~akrishna
Guest guest
AUM SRI GURUVE NAMAH Dear Gurudev! One question cropped in my mind. When we are calculating the longitude for calculation of charakaraka, we take into account Rahu's retrograde motion and substract the longitude from 30deg. Why don't we then subtract from 30 deg, the longitude of any other planets when they are retrograde... Now this 12th sign is also aspected by the following planets 1. Moon By graha drishti 2. Jupiter by Rasi drishti 3. Venus by Rasi drishti 4. Rahu by Graha drishti. So the possble candidates are Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Moon and Rahu. I guess we should find out the strenghts of these planets to determine the ishta devata. Jupiter and Venus are possibly stronger due to both being vargotama. But which one is stronger in them, Venus gets strenght due to it being lagna lord and exchange with mars .Jupiter is also said to be strong in Aquarius. Can the Atmakaraka also be the ishtadevata ? Guest guest
Sri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Ashish, He is actually supposed to be a form of Rudra. Hence the mantra for him is Om Ham Rudraya Hanumate Namah. He is a son of Vayu, that is why his name is Pavanaputra. The D-11 or the Rudramsha chart is seen for one's dangers and troubles. The chart corresponds with the Ekadasa Rudras. We do pray to Hanuman or Mrtyunjaya to remove the dangers from our lives. Hanuman is also associated with Mars, and if worshipped, removes many negative qualities of Mars. He is also the epitome of celibacy. Mars is the secondary karaka for the 6th house, the house of celibacy. Of course, since Bhima discovered that from one hair of his tail sprang a million lingas, there's also this claim that he's a Shiva incarnate. He's called Hanuman because of this anuman ;)Take it easy,Ramapriya

Guest guest
Hare Rama Krishna, Namaste Sanjay, When you say, Lack of understanding of Ishta; does that mean you don’t recognize Him or not worship Him? Since Ketu is the lord of Sc in Rashi by virtue of being with Jup, does he cease to be the lord of Sc in navamsa by being with the AK. I have this one more question, I have my AK(moon in Sg) and Amk (jup in Gem) vargottam. Sc, becomes the Ishta denoting rashi and also palana devatha denoting rashi. And both I thought were Ganesha. Now is there any rider that says both Ishta and palana cannot be the same? Thanks, Regards, Rema --- sanjayprabhakaran <sanjaychettiar wrote: > || Om Gurave Namah || > > Namaste Rema, > > You can always worship Ganesha. Also worship the > Graha's aspecting > the 12th.
