Namaste to all,

I'm a new member and this is my first posting to the group. I'm

primarily a classical western astrologer, but I've always had an

abiding interest in jyotish.

I'm experiencing some confusion around the rules for finding ishta

devata. I have visited the websites of both Visti Larsen and Sanjay

Rath and there seems to be a small disparity between their systems for

finding it.

Sanjay Rath says that we first look to the planet in the 12th from

Karakamsa for ID. If no planet is there, we look to the planet who has

graha drishti on the 12th from Karakamsa. If no aspect, then take the

ruler of the house. I hope I'm correct in my understanding of this

procedure.

I have also listened to the excellent mp3s of Visti Larsen, who says

to use the planet in 12th and if no planet is there to use the ruler.

Which of these is correct?

Also,do we generally follow the rule that Rahu is co-ruler of Aquarius

and Ketu is co-ruler of Scorpio?

Of course, I'm trying to figure this out for my own chart, so here is

my birth data.

My atmakaraka is Mercury. Navamsa lagna is Aries with Pisces karakamsa

with Saturn, ruler of 12th from Karakamsa and Rahu, co-ruler(?).

Jupiter is in Libra navamsa, aspecting Aquarius with graha drishti. As

per Sanjay Rath's procedure, since no planet occupies Aquarius,

Jupiter is Ishta Devata. As per Larsen, either Saturn or Rahu is Ishta

Devata.

Would someone please give me some guidance as to which of these

planets I should choose for Ishta Devata.

Thank you in advance for any assistance offered. I look forward to

further discussions on jaimini principles.

Namaste,

Antoine

Dear Antoine , Namaskar

Both are important, but lord (if empty) will have final say, whilst the

drsti planets will show helping Deities. Thats the rule which is coming

both from Vistiji and Sanjayji and that is what we all are following.

Dear Rafal,

Thanks so much for your reply. I also heard from Visti this afternoon.

His reply to me is below.

Dear Antoine, Namaskar.

I also consider Rahu to be the lord of Aquarius. When you are unsure

whether to take Rahu or Saturn as the Ishta Devata then always prefer

Rahu as he is responsible for the confusion to begin with! Best

mantras will be for Durga in your case. I recommend the Ram-Chandi

mantra: om aim hreem kleem chamundayai vicchai|

Yours sincerely, Visti Larsen

Best Wishes,

Antoine

Jaya JagannathaDear Antoine,Namaste1. Correct understanding in matter of signs and their co-lords. Rahu is stronger, so consider your Ista Devata as Sri Varaha.2. Jaimin Principles: Look for one of the Jaimini scholars and become a student with one of the scholars. Though the entire list of scholars is not on the Sohamsa website, it is important that you choose one closest to you for Guru Upadesa- Sueann Mckean, Eric Rosenbush, Freedom Cole all live in the West Coast and maybe closest to you. The other is Sat Siri Khalsa, but I am sorry to say that I am sure where she is based in USA.The link is http://www.sohamsa.com/j/index.php?option=com_contact & view=category & catid=12 & Itemid=58Good luck.love,SweeAlso,do we generally follow the rule that Rahu is co-ruler of Aquariusand Ketu is co-ruler of Scorpio?Of course, I'm trying to figure this out for my own chart, so here ismy birth data.Antoine1 January 19666:32 amWashington, DC77W02 38N53My atmakaraka is Mercury. Dear Swee,

Thank you for your response and suggestions!

Unfortunately, I am living in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I would be

pleasantly surprised to find a Jaimini scholar near here.

Hi all,

You know, I find this aspect fascinating. I've learned that we

determine Ishta Devata from the strongest planetary influence in the

12th house from the Atmakarak in Navamsha Kundali.

So, obviously, the planet residing would have the first say.

Secondly, the lord would have its say. The planets aspecting will

only modify the deity accordingly.

Maharishi Parashar gives us Vishnu Avatas as the presiding deity of

the 9 planets. Maharishi Jaimini gives Shivaji as Sun, Parvati Mata

as Moon, Kumar Kartikeya as Mars, Shree Vishnu as Mercury, Sadashiva

as Jupiter, Mahalaxmi Ma as Venus, Satya Narayan as Saturn, Durga

Mata as Rahu, and Ganeshji as Ketu.

By the way, there is another school of thought, which places Surya

Narayan for Sun, Parvati Mata for Moon, Kumar Kartikeya for Mars,

Shree Vishnu for Mercury, Satya Narayan for Jupiter, Mahalaxmi Mata

for Venus, Shivaji/Rudra swaroop for Saturn, Bhairav Bhagwan for

Rahu, and Ganpati Baba for Ketu.

Now, from what I have researched, it would be best to use specific

deity as planets signify in the Navamsha chart. Say, Ketu is in the

12th from Karakamsha, being aspected by Mercury, then this would

indicate a Vaishnav deity and it would be more accurate to worship

Lord Narayan's 10 avatars, in this case that would be Lord Matsya.

You know it works that way.

Comments welcomed.
