Guest guest
Deadly train derailment in Japan Sunday, December 25, 2005; Posted: 6:00 p.m. EST (23:00 GMT) TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- An express train derailed Sunday in northern Japan, killing two people and injuring more than two dozen others, officials said. News reports said a third victim had died, and strong winds were suspected as a cause of the crash. National broadcaster NHK and Kyodo News agency reported a third person -- a man -- had died, and put the toll of injured at 33. NHK said one person remained trapped in the wreckage and appeared to be unconscious. Police could not immediately confirm those reports. Five cars of the six-car express train derailed Sunday evening, and three of the cars toppled onto their sides in Yamagata state, about 180 miles north of Tokyo. … Japan in recent days has suffered from unusually heavy snowfall and blizzards have lead to the deaths of eight people, but snow did not appear to be a factor in Sunday's crash. NHK footage of the wreckage site showed the train derailed in a rural area, but there were only patches of snow on the ground. The train was en route from northern Akita prefecture to Niigata prefecture when it went off the tracks at about 7:20 p.m. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/12/25/japan.derailment.ap/index.html Dear List Members, Dasha: Ma/Sa/Ra/Ju/Sa.
