Soldiers near the town of Jamundi mistook the police for drug traffickers, Defence Minister Camilo Ospina said. One civilian was also killed in the skirmish, he said. Officials and police have gone to the site of the shooting to begin an investigation, Mr Ospina said. " I regret to inform to the public that an accident occurred that resulted in the death of 10 police officers and one civilian, " Mr Ospina told a press conference. Police chief Jorge Daniel Castro said those killed were members of the judicial police tasked with dismantling a narcotics trafficking group.
