Hi Jorge I just wish to point out that the fine work of your rectification for 17:58:34 hrs is a much needed correction of Marc Penfield's rectified time of 09:08:00 hrs CST, published in his book in 1984.[see source below] The legislation for the admission of the State of Illinois to the U.S.Federal Union is reported in the Journals of the House and Senate, as follows: Senate approved December 1st; House of Representatives approved December 2nd; House Committee on Enrolled Bills reported "first thing" on the morning of December 4th that the President signed the bill on the previous day, the 3rd. How Penfield is wrong: If Marc Penfield were correct, ie. 09:08 CST = 10:08 in Washington D.C., then the President's approval would have been reported, as a matter of long established practice, to the House on the afternoon of the same day of the supposedly morning

signature, the 3rd. Since it was reported only on the following morning, the 4th, evidently the Bill was signed earliest in the very late afternoon of the 3rd; certainly not signed in the morning of the 3rd. Penfield is wrong; Angelino right. P.S. However "co-ordinates-difference-insignificant", please correct your record for the State of Illinois' capital city: in that early era "Kaskaskia", not yet "Springfield", was the State's capital. Dear John,

Thanks for your email. Corrected chart

will follow…

So far, it seems that the admission of the

new states after the initial 13, and before March 19, 1918, occurred at noon time.

Best wishes,

Jorge

Hi Jorge

I just wish to point out

that the fine work of your rectification for 17:58:34 hrs is a much needed

correction of Marc Penfield's rectified time of 09:08:00 hrs CST,

published in his book in 1984.[see source below]

The legislation for the

admission of the State of Illinois to the U.S.Federal Union is reported in the

Journals of the House and Senate, as follows: Senate approved December

1st; House of Representatives approved December 2nd; House Committee on

Enrolled Bills reported " first thing " on the morning of December 4th

that the President signed the bill on the previous day, the 3rd.

How Penfield is wrong: If

Marc Penfield were correct, ie. 09:08 CST = 10:08 in Washington D.C., then the

President's approval would have been reported, as a matter of long established

practice, to the House on the afternoon of the same day of the supposedly

morning signature, the 3rd. Since it was reported only on the following

morning, the 4th, evidently the Bill was signed earliest in the very late

afternoon of the 3rd; certainly not signed in the morning of the 3rd. Penfield

is wrong; Angelino right.

P.S. However

" co-ordinates-difference-insignificant " , please correct your record

for the State of Illinois' capital city: in that early era

" Kaskaskia " , not yet " Springfield " , was the State's

capital.
