Dear List members,

I thought about how Rahu can get the ball rolling so to speak and wanted to see how it played in a wealthy person's chart.

This man's chart, a famous rock star known for charitable work, has

Rahu in the eighth of other people's money. It's very weak there

although it does aspect Saturn just outside of the five degree mark..

It does afflict it's own mool lord, the Sun, the lord of easy gains, other's money.

But notice Jupiter well placed in own sign of twelfth house of

charities along with second lord Saturn and the planet for humanitarian

efforts. It's weak in the twelfth but aspects the other

houses closely!

Aloha,

Sally

Biography

Irish singer with group U2 and social activist, raising millions of dollars as well as awareness of the poverty, famine and need for medical care that exists in many countries.

The Group U2 originally formed as the band " Feedback " in 1976. After winning a talent contest in March 1978, the band attracted a major following by early 1980. Extensive tours in the UK and US beginning in 1981 won acclaim and by early 1985, they were named the " Band of the '80s " by Rolling Stone magazine. With the release of " The Joshua Tree " in 1987, they achieved even greater commercial sensation. A passionate social activist, Bono prompted a historic $5 billion package from the US government to help fight poverty and disease in the world's poorest countries.

Seen in his trademark wrap-around blue shades, he is an incongruous figure alongside such notables as Jesse Helms, Pope John Paul II, and world leaders George W. Bush, Tony Blair and Vladimir Putin. With impressive communication skills, he made quite an impact on audiences at the World Economic Summit in New York where he discussed the complexities of the global economy with the likes of Bill Gates, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and Queen Noor of Jordan. A well-informed lobbyist, in June 2001 he went on a fact-finding trip to Ghana, South Africa, Uganda and Ethiopia with the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neill. In October 2005 he secured an interview with President George W. Bush. Bono was at ease in the interview as he always seems to be, reciting scripture, peeling off facts and figures, and soliciting commitment and funds to provide debt- and famine-relief for the world's poorest nations.

Named Paul David Hewson at birth, he is the second son of a Dublin mixed-religion marriage. His Protestant mother died of a stroke in 1974 when the boy was just 14. He remained close to his no-nonsense Roman Catholic dad, a civil servant, who died in August 2001 of cancer. In his father's memory, Bono illustrated and produced a children's book based on Prokofiev's classic " Peter and the Wolf, " released in the fall of 2003. Sales of the book, packaged with a CD by his musician friend Gavin Friday, benefit the Irish Hospice Foundation. The originals of the book's 16 illustrations by Bono were auctioned off by Christie's in New York City on November 21, 2003.

As a child, he was a headstrong, energetic, wildly curious kid, popular with his peers and also sensitive and smart. Nicknamed " Bono " by a pal after a Dublin hearing-aid shop called Bonovox, his interests ranged from chess to painting to theater. In 1976, he answered an ad at the High School to join a band along with Larry Mullen, guitarist Dave Evans and bass player Adam Clayton. They chose their name after the famous spy plane U2. Off to a slow start, it was not until 1980 that they had a break with a record deal. In 1987 U2 scored a first for the band when its CD skyrocketed to number 1 on the Billboard charts.

With strong Christian conviction nurtured by his mother's faith, Bono's interest in social causes increased as he grew older. The result is a dual image; that of the party-hearty rock star and the dedicated idealist. U2's 1983 album " War " included tracks with political themes. In 1985, the band was a major attraction for the Live Aid Concert in London. In 2000 the group participated in the Jubilee Concerts which raised millions for debt relief in Africa. Two years later, he co-founded DATA (Debt, AIDs, Trade, Africa), an organization whose mission is to " raise awareness about the crises swamping Africa: unpayable debts, uncontrolled spread of AIDS, and unfair trade rules which keep Africans poor. " His work earned him a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003. And in 2005, the Live 8 Concerts showcased the band with Bono being a major contributor to the success of the concerts in raising awareness in the industrialized world of the problems facing many of the world's poor.

Bono's wife, Alison Stewart Hewson, whom he married in 1982, shares her husband's concern for causes with her own special interest in ecology. The couple has four children with whom they live in Ireland when he's not touring or urging heads of state to alleviate the suffering of millions. Critics have occasionally lambasted Bono and his wife for mixing fame and lobbying, pop music with politics. Despite a struggle balancing his commitments to his band and his social causes, his belief in both his worlds continues to drive him.

The Irish singer and his group U2 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14, 2005. The ceremony was held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, NY. In December 2005 he and Bill and Melinda Gates shared the " Persons of the Year " award from Time magazine in recognition of the trio's humanitarian work individually and together.

Hi Sally,

Thanks for the chart. Using your data, my calculations put his

timezone at -01:00 BST which gives him Sagittarius rising with a

29:29 MEP. Rahu sits directly on this at the 9H of fortune and

aspects his 1H (mysterious-looking in his sunglasses). 3H is

conjunct by Ketu (which causes criticism of him) and aspected by

Rahu and Saturn (which reaches out to the masses. Saturn also

aspects his 7H and 10H MEPS allowing him to reach out to others and

bringing professional distinction. Sun, 9L, on the 5H and 11H MEPs

brings creativity and earnings.

Warm regards,

Shayn

Hi Sally,

I just happened to be looking at Bono's chart last night.

He gives his birth time as " 2 AM straight-up " and that's

right on the border between Sagittarius and Capricorn.

Using Parashara's Light, I get 29:57 Sag on the ascendant

anyway and it doesn't change into Capricorn until 2:01:27 AM,

using Lahiri. I have the same birth data that Astrodatabank

has and it works fine for me. It looks like your calculations

may be off by an hour, and DST was in effect in Dublin.

So please question the Capricorn rising and I think you'll

find what you would expect. With Sagittarius rising he

has a powerful 8H, and Saturn ruling the arts and writing

is located in the 1H of personal interests and fame. Jupiter

of success is also in its home sign and gives him a strong

1L, and he needs it to handle the impact of Rahu in

aspect to his Asc, and Sun. Both planets can handle it. This

is an excellent chart to show how the nodes can magnify

the success potential in someone's chart, though the down

side is his exposure to the temptations of the rock 'n' roll

lifestyle, such as (Rahu) 'recreational' drugs. I think you'll

feel relieved and see all the pieces fit together under Sag

rising.

Best wishes, Haizen Paige

Hi Haizen,

Yes, of course I use the Jyotish Tools and you have to change the zone to BST.

I was looking for the idea that Rahu stimulates a person to seek or act

and in this case extravagantly as he is well known for charitable work.

Aloha,

Sally

Sally,

I was trying to help you get the right chart first. The other things I mentioned

were to confirm his ascendant so you could know the true position of his Rahu

and go from there. Parasara's Light was mentioned just a frame of reference

in case you didn't have back-up software. Sometimes it helps to get input

when the chart doesn't exactly look right and I ask frequently myself.

Best wishes,

Haizen

Dear Shayn and LIst,

I can see that not all rich people have Rahu afflicting in their charts

as per Bill Gates. Prince Charles does and Bono does.

There goes that theory.

Shayn and List,

What's interesting is all of his planets are weakened because of

Rahu. And moreover he may not be as rich as I thought, just well

known for raising money and a famous singer. The Ketu affliction

on the third is interesting as it may have motivated him to spiritual

endeavors.

Haizen,

I didn't even look much at the rest of the chart.

But I see now.

Hi Sally,

According to one website, Bono is worth 108 million pounds. See

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/tv/bonosmillions.shtml.

Since Rahu afflicts the Sun (barely scrapes Saturn) and MEPs, it

can't be good. I would imagine that in this case, the Sun, even

though weakened by its affliction, slight old age, and weak Mars

dispositor (whose house is afflicted by Rahu)has enough royal energy

to help the 5/11 houses it aspects. Also, Jupiter (although weakened

by Rahu's affliction to its house) lends support to weak Venus, 11L.

It is interesting to note that backing the birth time off 5 minutes

to 1:55am puts Rahu just outside the 2 degree affliction of the MEPs

allowing Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Venus to be strong. Hmmmm. Was it

really " two on the dot " ?

Warm regards,

Shayn

Dear Shayn,

That makes way more sense to me. This would give him four strong

planets. The time was probably written as two and communicated as such,

but could very well have been inaccurate. Sounds like the start of a

good rectification. Even four minutes earlier would have helped,

making three planets strong.

But even with a two o'clock

time, Mars is well placed in the fourth. And maybe Rahu gave him

just enough " grist for the mill " , so he didn't rest and he took up

causes that were for the desperately needy. The planets are

strong in every other way, exalted Sun to boot.

In 1980 when he got the fame, he was in a Ju/Me period. And Rahu

after all is well placed in the ninth, and is in the house of an

exalted Sun. Rahu could have wreaked havoc with his body then, or

since it was conjunct the ninth could have meant inordinate traveling

with difficulties or problems with his father.

The eighth lord Moon is aspected by Venus, lord of the eleventh too.

When he met with President Bush he was in a Rahu subperiod.

And Rahu also gives the incongruous meetings he makes with people.

At any rate, the strength of the planets gives him his good fortune and

Rahu brings dissatisfaction and unusual fame with costs from vices and

unsavory or very worldly people.

Maybe the worst effects came at an early age.

" When Rahu forms close conjunction/aspect with natal planets, it

causes

affliction and

destroys the significations of these planets. The harm is less

when the afflicted planets

are strong and more when they are weak. When the planets are

weak, badly placed

and closely afflicted by Rahu, it is indicative of tragic

happenings.

When the

conjunction/ aspect is within a longitudinal difference of one degree,

the problems

surface in the first sub-period of Rahu or the planet afflicted by

Rahu. When this

affliction is within five degrees on either side, the effect is felt

at a young age during the

sub-period of the afflicted planet or of Rahu. " VK Choudhry

Dear Shayn and LIst,

Here's an additional thought. With all the charitable efforts he has performed astral remedies!

He lost his mother at age 14 possibly in the Rahu Mars period, due to a

stroke which is sudden and he would have been grief stricken as it

afflicts the fifth. And Mars is in the fourth.

In June of 2001 he toured the world extensively, this is Rahu's

influence from the ninth on Saturn ruling endeavors for the

masses. It's being in the exalted Sun's house gave him notoriety

with huge heads of state dealing with the difficult political issues of

poverty and health care.

His dasamsa chart is strong with the mool lord in it's own first house,

Mercury, his career signifier from the natal chart. That's rare.
