Some of the events/facts

used in the rectification:

 

With the state constitution

in hand representatives from California arrived in Washington; the next step

was to get a bill for statehood ratified in Congress. After a long debate,

mainly focused on the issue of California entering the Union as a free state,

the bill was approved, and on September 9, 1850, President Millard Fillmore

signed the bill admitting California to the Union as the thirty-first state. On

October 18, 1850, news reached San Francisco, and the event was celebrated in

high style.

By the efforts of Clay,

Fillmore, Webster and Douglas, California became the 31st state (free of

slavery) on September 9, 1850, and the war between the North and the South was

postponed.

California to New York. 425 were drowned.

settlers massacred a band of Wiyot Indians. At least 60 women, children and

elders were killed.

170-foot sailing ship Sir John Franklin wrecked near Pescadero, Ca.

 

1865        Jul 30, 14:30 LMT, The worst US steamship

disaster occurred. 221 people died

 

1866        Nov 19, The

sailing ship Coya wrecked. 26 people perished and 3 survived.

 

1867        Jun 27, The Bank

of California opened its doors.

Pacific Mail Steamship Colombia was destroyed on rocks near Pescadero, Ca.

 

1908        Dec 9, over

1,500 people were poisoned by contaminated meat. At least 2 died and scores

were hospitalized.

mammoth mud flow at Mt. Lassen filled the valleys of Hat and Lost Creeks.

The first running battles

between unionists and police began on July 3, 1934. Disturbances picked up

again Thursday, July 5, 1934 - known as " Bloody Thursday.

US Navy dirigible crashed on its 55th flight off the coast of California,

killing two people.

440-foot tanker Montebello was sunk by a Japanese submarine.

explosion at Port Chicago killed 320 seamen when a pair of ammunition ships exploded.
