Guest guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Share Posted March 2, 2006 Thursday, 2 March 2006, 08:31 GMT 'Police raid' on Kenya newspaper The Standard's offices were raided in the early hours Masked gunmen believed to be police stormed the offices of Kenya's second largest media group, disabling printing presses and shutting its TV station. They burned thousands of copies of the Standard, Kenya's oldest newspaper during the raid in the early hours. The information minister denied any knowledge of the raid. An opposition leader called it a " dark day " . Three Standard journalists are still being held without charge following a story about President Mwai Kibaki. Both he and senior opposition figure Kalonzo Musyoka denied a report in the Standard last week that they had been holding secret meetings.
