Rescuers fear the death toll could rise much higher as the buses were carrying scores more passengers. In one incident, in Thanjavur district, 40 bodies have been found - another 40 people are missing. In the other, near Rameswaram, 18 bodies have been found. Heavy rain has been falling in the area for the past week. The disaster in Thanjavur district happened near Pattukkottai.
