The official Xinhua news agency said the quake hit Jiangxi province at 0849 local time (0049 GMT). Hundreds of people have been injured and thousands of buildings were flattened, said officials. " You could hear windows vibrating, everyone ran out into the street, " a hotel receptionist in Juijang county told Reuters news agency. The epicentre is reported to have been in Ruichang city, near the border with Hubei province. Six people were reported dead and 130 were wounded in Ruichang, according to the official. Another six people were killed and another 247 were injured in the nearby county of Juijang, report authorities there. Some 130,000 homes were reported damaged in the worst-hit Jiujang and Ruichang counties.
