Guest guest
Tuesday, 22 November 2005, 11:51 GMT Gamma leaves 32 dead in Honduras The storm forced thousands to evacuate their homes in Honduras The death toll from Tropical Storm Gamma, which hit Central America at the weekend, has reached 32 in Honduras. More than 25,000 people have been taken to safety, officials said. Emergency services are coordinating an international effort to rescue stranded villagers and distribute relief to those who fled their homes. Gamma is the 24th storm in the Atlantic season - the busiest on record. It was downgraded to a tropical depression as it headed out to the Caribbean sea. Honduran officials fear the number of dead will rise considerably as reports come in from areas that are cut off. A dozen people are still missing. Gamma battered the northern coastline of the country with winds of about 45 mph (72km/h), causing flooding and mudslides that destroyed thousands of homes. Floods also washed away bridges, highways and government buildings in Honduras. Gamma left three dead in neighbouring Belize, where a private plane crashed because of the bad weather associated to the storm. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4456758.stm Dear list Members, Dasha: Ju/Ra/Ke/Me/Me.
