A

Portuguese soldier was killed and three more wounded when their vehicle was

hit by an explosive device east of the capital, Kabul, on Friday.

The fatality was the first suffered by Portugal, which has

about 200 troops in the international peacekeeping force.

The incident occurred when two vehicles were patrolling

in Baghrami district. A spokesman for the Isaf peacekeepers said the blast

was probably a landmine.
