Some of the events/facts used in the rectification:

On July 23, 1970, supporters of Qabus

bin Said Al Said stormed al-Hisn, the sultan's seaside palace in Salalah,

and forced his father the sultan to abdicate and accept exile. Two weeks later,

the new 30-year-old sultan made his first appearance in the capital Muscat and a new era

began. For the next few years, nearly any Omani, when asked what he or she

thought of the new ruler, would almost inevitably reply, " Before him,

there was nothing. Now, there is everything. " Over the next decade or

more, the sultanate made enormous strides in developing its potential and

raising the standard of living of its people.

On July 23, 1970, Kaboos and a

handful of his father’s trusted British advisers appeared at the palace

with an ultimatum that the sultan abdicate. Sultan Said fired a few harmless

shots into the ceiling, then meekly boarded a waiting Royal Air Force plane

bound for London.
