The hurricane, carrying winds of 130km/h (80mph), came ashore south of the port of Veracruz, which is 295km (185 miles) east of Mexico City. Mexican authorities had evacuated the affected areas but there is no word on new casualties. The storm is heading slowly south-west and weakening further.
