Guest guest
Choudharyji, It is said in Geeta by Lord krishna that Bhaktiyog is more superior than dhyanyog in kalyug. Can you provide us some comments with the present kalyug situation. By bhaktiyog i mean love, kirtan and seva towards lord as compared to meditation for hours and days. Can real meditation achievable for a common man in kalyug ? Vasudevaa
Guest guest
Hello Vasudevaa, It is absolutely right that bhakti yoga is the appropriate yog in Kaliyuga. Meditation is very difficult in view of the challenges of the present age. Even the so called spiritual leaders are spending money on their publicity and promotion programmes. Guest guest
Iver, To your question, check out chapter 6 that describes Dhyana yoga. Next, in chapter 12 devotional service (bhakti yoga) is spoken about extensively. Additionally, Vasudevaa asked whether the common man can practice extensive meditation. It is not the yuga dharma for the present time. In this age a prevalent theme is 'shortened.' Shortened lifespans, tolerance, intellectual use/ability, etc. This works in our favour as well since all the processes are streamlined and results are quickly attained. So whereas the ultimate process is bhakti yoga, we can still practice meditation once we find the perfect streamlined process that suits our soul's evolution. In short, the common man has the ability to meditate deeply and develop alot of dormant abilities and connect with the universal consciousness if guided properly. However, the common man will not adopt uncommon practices meant for uncommon goals. If you are interested, check out material by Mantak Chia, Choa Kuk Sui, Pete A. Sanders, Jr. I've always found myself attracted to the development of dormant abilities and these guys seem to have some of the least complicated, effective methods. There are very powerful, heavy meditation practices out there, for instance, 'Meditation on Twin Hearts,' that do not take long to practice (30min-1hr). So it need not be a 3 day meditation to acheive very uncommon results. I also recommend that you explore Bhakti Yoga alot. See any book by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami - all very nicely written and explained. Guest guest
Dear Vyasji. Yog I believe is defined as the " Karm ki Kaushaltha " , sorry i did not know the english translation of this. Whether Dhyan Yog or bhakti yog if the goal is the same, then any way is good. However, the chances of less attainment for a common man are more in the case of Dhyan yog. Roop dhyan is something which has more impact, as far as i believe. The restlessness and its inherent nature of mind is difficult to control for a common man. Therefore we have to rise above the mind to intellect and soul. That is the ultimate goal and the path is free for everyone to choose.
