The AB-412 helicopter crashed overnight about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Nasiriya, the southern Iraqi city where Italy's 3,000 troops are based, the military said in a statement, according to The Associated Press. The cause was not immediately known. The helicopter was returning from the Kuwaiti international airport and had stopped to refuel at Camp Buehring, also in Kuwait, AP reported. Radio contact was lost soon after the helicopter took off from the camp, the Italian statement said. A rescue team found the wreckage at dawn in the desert close to the Tallill air base in Iraq near Nasiriya, AP reported. The military said it was investigating the cause of the crash. Italy's military contingent is the fourth largest in Iraq after the United States, Britain and South Korea. The helicopter was the third aircraft to go down in Iraq within a week. An Iraqi air force plane with five people aboard crashed Monday while on a reconnaissance and surveillance mission in Iraq's eastern Diyala province, the U.S. military said. The four Americans and one Iraqi aboard were presumed dead, said a U.S. military spokesman in Iraq. Last Thursday, an OH-58 helicopter was shot down by small arms fire near the town of Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, killing both American soldiers on board. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/05/31/iraq.italy.crash/index.html Dear List Members, Dasha is Ma/Ra/Sa/Sa/Me.
