(CNN) -- The Australian

Government has issued a warning of a possible terrorist attack or bombings of

government buildings in East Timor.

Late Tuesday the Australian Government issued the travel

advisory, warning travellers to avoid all government buildings in the capital, Dili

and specifically pointed to possible attacks being carried out on Wednesday May

11.

" We have received new information of a possible attack

or bombing against East Timor government buildings in Dili on 11 May, 2005. Australians are advised

to avoid the vicinity of all government buildings in Dili, " the travel

advisory said.

The Government did not reveal who or what group it believed

could carry out such a threat.

East Timor has

been plagued by violence since it gained independence in 1999, after an

Australian-led United Nations-mandated intervention force effectively removed pro-Indonesian

militas, after the population overwhelmingly voted for independence from Jakarta.

The Australian travel warning also comes as the next round

of talks between East Timor and Australia over the Timor Sea oil and gas riches begins on Wednesday in Sydney.

The talks between Australian Foreign Minister Alexander

Downer and East Timorese Foreign Minister Hose Ramos Horta are expected to

finalize plans under a deal struck last month.

In late April, Downer said Australia had struck a deal with East Timor over disputed maritime

boundaries and oil and gas revenues from the Timor Sea.

Under the deal East

Timor would receive up to Aust. $5 billion

($3.85 billion) as well as a 90 per cent share of revenues it receives from a

joint development area in the Timor

Sea.

In return East Timor has agreed to postpone a resolution on the contentious sea

boundary issue.

East Timor

believes the sea boundary line should be drawn half way between the two

countries while Australia wants it closer to East

Timor.
