Winners included Demetrio De Carvalho of East Timor for his environmental efforts. 2004 Jul 29, Four Indonesian security officers convicted over atrocities during East Timor's 1999 violence-marred independence vote were acquitted. 2004 Nov 5, Abilio Jose Soares, the only Indonesian official to be punished for violence that killed up to 2,000 East Timorese in 1999, has been released from jail, following a court decision that overturned his conviction.
