AMAGASAKI, Japan - Investigators focused on excessive speed and a 23-year-old train

driver's lack of experience after a crowded commuter train jumped the rails on

a curve Monday and plowed into an apartment building, causing Japan's deadliest

rail accident in four decades.

Rescuers worked into the

night trying to free survivors from twisted rail carriages left when the train

hit the nine-story building's parking garage, killing at least 57 people and

injuring 441. It was not clear if any bystanders or apartment residents were

among the victims.

Early Tuesday, rescuers

working under floodlights pulled out a conscious but seriously injured

46-year-old woman and took her to a hospital, police official Hiroshi Yamatani

said.

Jammed with 580

passengers, the seven-car train derailed at 9:18 a.m. on a curve near Amagasaki, about 250 miles west

of Tokyo, then plowed through an automobile and slammed into the wall of

the building's parking garage. Two of the five derailed train cars were

flattened and one was bent around a corner of the building.

Dear Jorge...

Thanks for your post, and all your work on rectifying these country charts.

In this case, Saturn, the operating planet, is under the aspect affliction of Rahu.

Saturn, in transit, is conjunct and afflicted by natal Rahu.

FM Venus is on the MEP of the twelfth house of losses and hospitals .

MMP Jupiter is on the MEP of the fifth house, afflicting the fifth, ninth, eleventh and first houses.

Certainly these explain the tragedy.

Our prayers are with the victims and their families.

Dear Jorge:

Perhaps will comment on this.....

I noticed you used -09:19 LMT for Japan.

Most software programs give -09:00 for Japan.

A few years ago, we had some discussion regarding whether or not to adapt the time zones from standard, such as TZ 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, etc., or whether to modify them to the precise data.

I think we ended up not modifying them, but using the rounded off numbers.

Dear Professor, what do you think about this? What should we use?

Hello dear Mr. Hawthorne,

If there are firm info available about past Time Zones, we should use these.

Dear David,

On July 12, 1886 Japan adopts timezone GMT

+ 9:00, which is utilized by the Public Services, but the population follows

Local Time.

On January 1, 1896 the population is forced

to follow GMT + 9:00.
