Approximately 3,000 Carib descendants still live on the island. The British took control in 1763, and Dominica became a colony in 1805, finally gaining total independence in 1978. Called the " Nature Island, " Dominica is certainly that, and much more. It's literally covered with thick green jungle, punctuated by sharp-edged volcanic peaks, mountains lakes, rivers, hot springs and waterfalls, and a wide variety of green vegetation and wildlife. It's a popular cruise ship destination, and a magnet for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The offshore reefs attract divers from around the world. Agricultural is the major industry here, followed closely by tourism. Travelers fortunate to visit this Eden will tell you that Dominica is a true paradise, wonderfully preserved for all to see. http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/namerica/caribb/dm.htm Some of the events used in the rectification: Top 10 Natural Disasters in Dominica sorted by numbers of people killed and affected Disaster Date Killed Wind Storm Aug-1979 40 Wind Storm 6-Oct-2001 3 Wind Storm 9-Oct-1984 2 Wind Storm 5-Sep-1995 1 Wind Storm 4-Aug-1980 0 Wind Storm Nov-1999 0 Disaster Date Affected Wind Storm Aug-1979 72,100 Wind Storm 9-Oct-1984 10,000 Wind Storm 5-Sep-1995 3,001 Wind Storm Nov-1999 715 Wind Storm 6-Oct-2001 175 Wind Storm 4-Aug-1980 0 Disaster Date Killed Transport Accident 25-Aug-1998 11 date type reg. operator fat. location kind 23-JAN-1992 Beech 99 N42AK Nature Island Express 2 Dominica A1 Best wishes, satva Jorge Angelino Rua da Sociedade Filarmónica Perpétua Azeitonense, 29 2925-598 Azeitão Portugal jorge.angelino tel: mobile: 210813674 963916784 Add me to your address book...
