Masonic Washington & the Articles of Confederation 1781

Hi GroupWhile studying the event of the Yorktown Surrender I happened to refer to David Ovason's book on Washington D.C., where he recounts the laying of the Cornerstone for the Capitol Building on September 18th, 1793, a ceremony presided over by President Washington in the company of prominent Masons from the Virginia and Maryland Lodges. The Masons prepared a silver plate to commemorate the ceremony; and it reads: "on the 18th day of September, 1793, in the Thirteenth Year of American Independence, the year of Masonry 5793". As Ovason points out, a date symbolically denoting the era following the supposed foundation of the Temple of Solomon. He goes on to rightly point out that"the revolution against the British oppressors had begun in a warehouse owned by a Mason" .....(in reference to the afternoon meeting when it was decided to have the evening Tea Party on December

13, 1773)..."and the group which had participated in the Boston Tea Party had been composed largely of Masons". Then, strangely enough, Ovason moves on to related topics, saying nothing at all about "in the 13th year". Ovason fails to point out just which historic event, which this silver plate adverts to, marked American Independence more than 12 years before the Cornerstone ceremony for the Capitol on September 18th, 1793. Clearly this "in the 13th year" could only refer to the ratification of the Articles of Confederation on March 1, 1781 @ 12:00 noon @ Independence Hall, Philadelphia. (The 13th year in question started the day after March 1, 1793. While previously I had thought, mistakenly it turns out, that the "in the 13th year" referred to the October 19, 1781 surrender at Yorktown; but, of course, that would have put the Cornerstone ceremony "in the 12th year" after.So there you have it. I have considered an interpretation mentioned at length

in C.C. Zain's ANCIENT MASONRY (1938) about the efficacy of Masonic pre-natal planning, and therefore I have considered the distinct possibility that the Masons, or the hermetic-minded among them at least, view July 2nd, 1776 as the time moment of "Conception" of the USA, but not its actual birth.
