26 February 1936: The February 26th Revolt or, in Japanese parlance, " 2-2-6 Incident " was an

attempted coup d'etat organized by Kodoha junior officers in army units

stationed in and around Tokyo. In snowy scenes reminiscent of the vengeful nocturnal raid of

the 47 Ronin on Lord Kira using these very same streets some 235 years before,

the coup started out with the dispatching of various assassination squads of

officers and men throughout the metropolitan area in the wee hours of February 26, 1936.

Their targets were the nation's political elite -- almost everyone up to but

not including the Emperor or the immediate Imperial family itself.

The atomic

bomb named " Little Boy " was dropped on Hiroshima by the Enola Gay, a Boeing

B-29 bomber, at 8:15 in the morning of August 6, 1945.

Total Casualties 135,000.

 

At 11:02 a.m., August 9, 1945 an

atomic bomb exploded on Nagasaki. Total Casualties 64,000.

 

Sep 18, 1945: wind storm kills 3746.

 

Dec 20, 1946: earthquake kills 2,000; M 8.4; Tonankai (Honshu Island), Japan.

On 1 March 1954, a

Japanese fishing boat was exposed to radiation from an American nuclear test.

The Americans were blowing up Bikini Atoll and the unfortunate fishermen were about

200km away. One man died, everyone else got radiation sickness and all the fish

was contaminated and thus worthless. The U.S. paid two million dollars to someone in 1955.

On 20 March 1995,

around 8:00 AM, Aum Shinrikyo cult kills 12 in the Tokyo subway sarin gas attack

 

From February 7, 1998 to

February 21, 1998, Winter Olympic Games.

 

Sep 12, 2000: wind storm kills 9, affects 180041

 

Feb. 9, 2001: U.S. sub, Japanese trawler collide, Hawaii: Submarine accidentally hit

and sank fishing school vessel. 9 people missing.

 

June 8, 2001, Mamoru Takuma kills eight children in a primary school in Osaka.

 

Aug 31, 2001: Tokyo explosion and fire kills 44.

 

Sep. 16, 2002: Japan, North Korea historic meeting

 

September 26,

2003, 4:50 a.m. local time (1950 GMT). An

earthquake measuring 8.0 hit the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido early Friday, forcing thousands

to evacuate. No deaths reported.
