We may buy the article or not depending on your convenience; but it is not good to make fun of holy articles. If the genuinity of an article or a person is in doubt, you can ignore them. But, it is not good to make fun and trash them merely on the basis of doubts and surmises. Rudraksh is a symbol of Lord Shiva and Puraanaas extol the virtues of the Rudraaksh. Just as other articles, the prices may vary as a factor of market supply/ demand over which the procurer may not have any control. If I want to gift Durga Sapta Sathi book to 100 vedic scholars as a part of rituals, and if there is no other source and the price quoted is phenomenal, it is not that I will avoid buying the book; I will buy it at ANY COST. Such being the case, rare rudraakshs will be necessarily costly due to the heavy demand of those from all over the world (they are always wise; they understand the value of these things and I personally know many foreigners who curse their fate that they were not born in India - this Holy land!) We should understand these things clearly. That apart, making fun of holy articles is definitely a sin - whatever may be your personal reasons for such a behaviour. Rudrakshs definitely help in reduction of karma. If we say we follow vedic traditions, we have no reason to doubt puraanaas and other holy scriptures which explicity say so. If you do not want to purchase it from one person, you are free to take your decision; but do not trash the article itself!
