to our first Astrology 'Articles' Newsletter. These will come out

periodically, so enjoy! For a number of these first issues we also

will include an Astrological Survey so you can give us feedback about

what's of special interest to you. As always, feel free to email me

"When Should We 'Do' More Astrology?"

There are four main areas in which we can benefit from 'doing' more Astrology.

Number one, is in the area of self-understanding. There is no

philosophy, religion, or system of human understanding that is able to

so accurately help a person 'understand' exactly, who they are! Inside each person's Astrological chart is a clear description of 'Who' we are, what kind of personality we will have and exactly what our strengths and weaknesses will be. What an incredible gift to be able to discover truly, 'who' one

is! Everything in life, flows from one's self-knowledge. Those who

are the most successful in life are those that know themselves the

most. Those who know who they are, what their personal lives are all

about, find themselves getting along extremely well, in their pursuits.

Therefore, ask yourself this first question? Do I know myself

completely? Do I know who I am and why I've come to this Earth? Many

times when people come to have their charts read one of their main

questions is "What is my life purpose?" Though sometimes people will

ask: "What is my ideal career?" or "What is my Dharma?" The answer is the same. Inside our charts is the most complete elaboration of exactly who WE are

than any philosophy I've ever studied. I was an Education and

Philosophy major in college so I studied all the great philosophies of

human history. None of these philosophies gave me more insight into

myself than the study of my personal, unique, highly individualized

'Astrology chart!' So, Self-knowledge is the first reason to

'do more astrology'. And, the coolest thing about this is how

'empowering' it is to discover more about oneself. Listen to a woman

The second major reason for 'doing' Astrology is in becoming more

successful in life, itself. In other words, our charts are not only

about ourselves, our personalities, our strengths and weaknesses, but,

our charts are also about what we're 'ideally' supposed to be doing in

this world. As many of you know, there are Houses and Planets that are

especially involved in our every-day affairs and relationships in the

world. The specific information, knowledge and wisdom that's

contained there can help any person become much more in-tune and

successful, therefore, in their outer life! The third

major benefit from Astrological knowledge lies in the area of

self-development. Because, Astrology understands the fact that we have

positive and negative aspects of ourselves, this self-understanding is

crucial in terms of also helping us become more self-developed. For

example, where we have our positive planets, (ie. our Benefics), this

is where we have our major human talents, qualities and characteristics.

For example, those with so-called 'good' or Benefic Suns, have

tremendously positive self-confidence, self-worth and even strength of

will. On the other hand, those with Benefic Moons have tremendously

well developed emotional natures, empathy, understanding of others and

even intuition. Therefore, we can benefit a lot from coming to know

and under- stand our Benefics more fully. I call this "Utilizing our

Strengths". Then, there are those negative, undeveloped, or

so-called Malefic planets which indicate where we will have our

greatest challenges, frustrations, and lack of success.

Traditionally, Jyotishees would look at someone's chart and determine

which planets were Benefic and which one's Malefic. Unfortunately, the

typical reaction was that in those areas of one's Malefics this is

just, where you would have your greatest failures. Now,

looking back over the last 22 years, I now realize the greatest insight

God has given me about Astrology has been in relationship to the

'malefics'. Not only are they the source of all our struggles

and unhappiness, BUT, they are exactly the 'thing' that we came to do,

and improve in our lives. In other words, not only are our Malefics

the reasons for our failures, but they are the exact 'opportunities' of

our self-development! If we look at our Malefics in this way,

we will truly get a deeper insight into why we've come to the Earth.

Not only did we come to enjoy our strengths, but, we really came to

work on our malefic weaknesses. And, when we move even a few

steps towards improving 'those' then our life rushes ahead in such

positive and life-affirming ways that you will truly come to understand

why you were born. Therefore, the third major reason for 'doing' Astrology is to help us evolve!

Through Remedies, Remedial Measures and what a friend of mine calls

'Awakenings' we can literally change and improve ALL of our Malefics.

The fourth major area of Astrology has to do with Predictions. In

other words, inside our charts is not only a clear description of 'who'

we are but a clear picture of 'how' that person is meant to evolve,

over time. The Dasas, (time periods) and Transits, (the

movements of the Stars and planets each day) are the two main ways in

which our charts unfold, in time. The Dasas, represent the

positive and negative consequences or karmas that will be coming to us,

in direct proportion to our individudal charts. The Dasas represent

how we wil be 'feeling' in the future, on an interior emotional level.

The Transits, on the other hand, will be how the world, the universe,

the stars will be affecting us, too. Where the Dasas reflect our chart, karmas, from the inside, the Transits will be reflectiveof

the influences coming to us, from the outside. In other words, if you

want to know what the future will hold, you only need to understand

your Dasas and Transits. Sooooo, I hope you've enjoyed this

little trek through the wilderness of Astrology! I find it so exciting

I can hardly wait to get up each morning and share more and more with

people. Over the next few weeks and months, notice how your activities with your chart, involve one of these 4 main areas.

As you learn how to master each of these areas, you will discover such

"Relationship Between the Astrologer & Student"

I think it's important to understand the relationship between the

'Astrologer' and those studying Astrology. For thousands of years,

professional Astrologers have had an important role to play.

Unfortunately, I think 'astrologers' have become much like priests or

psychologists. There's always a concern that we don't give our power

over to others, no matter how great they may be. I had one of the

greatest Guru's in this world these last 38 years and when he was asked

about 'his' disciples he just said: "I don't have disciples. Everyone

just follows their own evolution." Today, for the first time,

millions of individuals are actively involved in their own Jyotish or

Astrological self-study. This is a very great sign of the times,

because Jyotish is meant to be self-learned. There are some

who believe this self-participation is at the very heart of all Vedic

wisdom. Some have even said such things as "You will Be your own best

Jyotishee!" That's what I heard when I first got exposed to Jyotish

when I was in India in 1987 attending an Ayurvedic course. At the

time, I couldn't even imagine how this could be so. But, I was

inspired, at least to give some self-study, a try. Two years later

I ran into a friend in my town who I knew had been studying Jyotish for

over 10 years. "Wow", I thought, "he should really be able to give me

keen insight into my chart!" So, I asked him, "Walt, would you mind

looking at my chart?" "I'd love to", he said. I listened in

rapture as he began spinning through my chart. You can imagine how

surprised I was to find that he really didn't 'get me'! I mean, I knew

what he was saying. I could follow the reasoning behind all of his

thoughts, but he still didn't get to the.... 'what'? He didn't truly

get the whole signifcance. I pondered for a number of days

this experience. Then, the remembrance came: "You will be your own

best Jyotishee!" I realized that had happened! I had learned enough

so I couldstep into my proper role of being my own, best Astrologer.

Now, it doesn't mean that professional astrolgers won't always have a

role. I still benefit from hearing what 'others' have to say. In

fact, I've learned most of my Astrology while listening to others, how

'they' experience themselves. People and life itself, (ie. the Transits) both so profoundly express all the realities, principles and rules of Astrology.

In the future, we'll discover that 'we' are the source of the greatest

wisdom, within. When that happens, what we do when we go to see

someone else, will be viewed as a kind of 2nd class type of Jyotish. What I've discovered, within myself, has been the greatest knowledge and wisdom I've ever received. And, it's so fulfilling to know that one is supremely competent, to indeed be "One's Own Best Astrologer!"

This is because almighty God sits there inside of us. And, learning to

look within and become more aware of that deep, supreme level of

'teacher' is how we can become our own 'Best' astrologer! So, good luck in your own study! Use, professional astrolgers, like myself, as help-mates,but have the confidence, that YOU are your own best Astrologer! And, the sooner you come to realize this, the more poweful will be the influence of Jyotish, in your personal life. Sincerely, Mark Kincaid
