Dear Mark,

I just read about your mother and felt like sharing...

....i lost my mother when i was barely 18, though i never grew up

with her...due to family problems (and a sacrifice on her part to

ensure i have a good life and education) i was being brought up by

my maternal grandparents and uncles...

....she was sickly all her life with asthama and arthritis..her

husband (my father) was a gambler who used to even pawn the stuff

that she with great difficulty earnt and bought..when she died i

remember i felt a heartbreaking sadness about life and god's

ways...coz she had no happiness in life..absolutely nothing in her

life had gone well..the only fruitful thing about her life was

perhaps my own life...

this year on my birthday i remembered her and moped intensely for

not having been there for her eighteen years ago..and coz i

remembered her sacrifice and the selfless love i got from her in the

little time we spent together...however, in that moment of distress,

a friend said..usha, your mother doesnt want you to cry or feel

sorry for her...she wants you to be happy, doing what you want and

being happy and in peace with it...

....the truth of it really hit me..and ever since i've been

consciously trying to do things that could make me happy and lifting

myself out of any sadness or depression these nasty transits have

been causing through prayers and faith...and more often these days,

maybe coz am older and i understand and appreciate her more, i feel

an immense gratitude towards her..for my own life...for all her

sacrifices..and i feel she is still guiding me on towards fulfilling

my own purpose in life...

Don't know if it helps, but felt the need to share...

Love and peace,

Usha
