Guest guest
The Great Mother Electrodynamic in China -- Sun Crow or Ocean Dragon Divinity? Article later published in The Empty Vessel magazine. ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ What course does our magnetic journey of cultivation take? Which path completes the electric circuit of our knowing, of our divinity, of our connection to all our living relations of this celestial wilderness? Cyclic ceremonial dance, electromagnetic chi-ritual, of our alignment in the greater electrodynamic gong? Is the GREAT MOTHER a wheel, or a cross, or an empty vessel? [Or a journey?] ~~~~~ HongShan Jade SunCrow Goddess, Inner Mongolia/Manchuria (Jade Nuwa Goddess against backdrop of Sun), Author's photo-art ... ~~~~~ Was it an earlier 'Journey to the West' -- thousands of years before Shakyamuni Siddhartha Gautama Buddha -- that brought the Creation Goddess NuWa to the Yellow River peoples?A trajectory across the Sky from East to West as in the "Rainbow Serpent" or "Sun Mother" of the Australian Aboriginal dreamtime? "Journey To The West" is the best-loved story from buddhist China -- available in many movie and television formats of great length. It is based on the true story of the intrepid Chinese monk, Xuan Zang (602-664). Commanded to travel to the West, to the Indus Valley ... to seek for the Sutras, the sacred writings composed by the disciples of Sakyamuni Buddha ... Xuan Zang journeyed on foot for twenty years before returning to the Chinese Imperial City of Xian with the precious scrolls. In the popular fiction story (and mainstay of the Bejing Opera!) Monkey King, Sun Wu Kong, is the principal character and companion of Xuan Zang on the pilgrimage ... and the many trials and tribulations for all- involved in this dramatic transitionary period of Chinese history from the Taoist 'longhairs' regime to the Buddhist shaved heads. [viz. a similarly dramatic period from `recent` Japanese history when the Samurai and their swords were outlawed, and their topknots ('long' hair pigtails) were cut from their scalps by the new era of Japanese government which sought to emulate another `West`, this time a West of European & North America flavour.] Monkey, who is also an enlightened being who studied under many masters, became immortal by eating the Peaches in the garden of heaven, upsetting Emperor Yu Huang Da Di, or the "Great Emperor of Jade" in Heaven.[Monkey ate ALL the peaches!] The forces of Heaven and Monkey battled for ages, until a ruse and deceipt by Goddess Kuan Yin imprisoned Monkey ... at which time he was emtombed under a mountain for ages, until released to be in service to Xuan Zang on his journey to the Asian `West` ... Thus, this article is raising the question of an even earlier great upheavel in Chinese history, from thousands of years earlier ... Central Asian herstory. The question of the `incarnation` in `China` of the origin/creation Goddess NuWa (NuKua, NuGua, NaGa) whose form and figurines and worship were the mainstay of China long before the consolidation of the Chinese Empire and the arrival of Sakyamuni and Confucious! Today the figurines and public statues of NuWa are still worshipped and present ... yet they are a hundred times overshadowed by the Kuan Yin and Buddha statuary and temples, which are the ONLY statues which can be found in the mainstream economy of Chinese `religion` around the globe. ~~~~~ NaGa Kanya Winged Serpent Gold-Gilt Bronze, Conch Shell in hand, Nepal, photo-art ~~~~~ In a nutshell, the Chinese characters for NuWa (and Kuan Yin as well) are usually translated as wet melon, great mother, or ocean womb. The story told for thousands of years, the origins and legacy we are now uncovering, is that NuWa was the dragon/serpent goddess of creation .... from the world-ocean ... who arrived at the very beginning of Earthly (mortal) time at the mouth of the Yellow River. It was there, from the yellow clay, that SHE fashioned people, woman and men, and ALL the creatures of the Earth, our great family. SHE fashioned them from `living clay`, the body of the Earth, and sent them on their way. Yet when did SHE take on the form of the Sun Crow, and when the Ocean Womb Serpent / Dragon body? Today we will not trace her journey around the Earth -- all her merging forms in our circumplanetary cultures --[viz Nuit, Nut ... aka Isis/Maat ... and other global divinities] -- but only sketch her early expression in Central Asia/greater China, and her possible journey from the Indus Valley (through Tibet?) to Mongolia/Manchuria, and to the South and Yellow River. Before `modern` (written) history the Dragon-tailed NuWa goddess of Creation was alternately portrayed as a Winged Sun Crow or as the Dragon-tailed Ocean Womb Mother of Fu Xi in China. Later, in `history` she was made to be Fu Xi`x wife and mere co-author of Chinese civilisation. [see the architect`s square in her hand, and Moon in other, in the rubbing later in the text.] The ancient Ho Tu diagrams of prehistorical China, include the eight trigrams of the I-Ching. The Ho Tu is sometimes arranged in a concentric circular pattern ... and Ho Tu is also said to translate as the Milky Way dragon goddess. Recently, heads & full figures of her depiction (in clay, jade and stone) have been un-Earthed and announced by the PRC government -- from sites in North China (Inner Mongolia/Manchuria) and elsewhere. [Along with ancient Chinese calligraphy written on Tortoise shells, predating the Sumerian cuneiform by two thousand years!] ~~~~~ Jade Goddess Temple Head, Niuheliang, Liaoning Province, Inner Mongolia/Manchuria ~~~~~ [Read for example about the"Nu Shen Miao" (or Temple Goddess) from Niuheliang, Liaoning Province in our ChinaU or the Seven-Seven discussion groups at -- and please ask questions or add contributions. ] Similarly, the public awareness of a Neolothic Jade Age in China/ Central Asia, between the Stone Age and Bronze Age, known as the Hong Shan period, is unearthing many more NuWa goddess figurines -- in both Sun Bird/Crow and Mother Serpent/Dragon configurations, from antiquities collections traced to the 18th and 19th centuries. [including Jade Statuary with advanced Chinese calligraphy, writing, which predates the known Sumerian Cuneiform by thousands of years.] And the growing market for the Goddess, and HongShan Jade, is leading to a great new under-and-above- ground industry in NuWa Jade figurines. Here is what an antiquities trader in Beijing has to say about the Hong Shan Jade Age of China: ~~~~~ Hong Shan Jade Period of Central Asia From the dawn of Chinese civilization existed the Neolithic period (circa 6000 to 2000 BC), when more than five ancient cultures have existed in China, including Hongshan culture, Majianbang culture, Longshan culture, Liangzhu culture and others. Hongshan Culture 6000-1700 BC Jade has always held a special place in Chinese culture. From ancient times its value has been considered to be greater than gold or silver. Beginning in the Neolithic period, the stone was carved into shapes such as discs (bi) or square tubes (cong) and placed on the body of the deceased within the tomb. Believed to have special protective powers, jade was thought to preserve the body from decomposition as well as to protect it from evil spirits. The stone culture has existed in china for thousands of years. From the dawn of civilization, the Hongshan people in northeastern china and Mongolian areas began to use jade gemstones to make tools for hunting and farming. ~~~~~ HongShan Jade Era Calligraphy, Owl Statuary ~~~~~ Definition: Late Neolithic period [4700-2920 B.C.] culture in China, primarily the Manchurian area including Liaoning province and Inner Mongolia; known for ceremonial complexes, jade, copper, perhaps bronze working. Hongshan Culture traces back to 4500 and 8500 years ago. Jade in Hongshan Culture was used as the media between humans and the heaven, as ritual objects, as the symbol of power, also as ornaments. There are approximately 300 piece of original Hongshan Culture jades discovered to this date and considered priceless. ~~~~~ In fact, thousands of years later, for the Chinese Empresses and Emperors ... and the VERY few of court who could similarly afford it ... the most precious of the jades, the `liquid` or transparent green jade known as Jadeite, was powdered and eaten ... as an immortality source, as well as a source for sexual potency. [Jadeite necklaces & artifacts, originating in slave mines in Myanmar/Burma, circulate amongst the private nobility of the world -- fetching prices in the tens of millions and hundreds of millions (US $) per item.] A fascinating insight into the power of Jade in royal China is presented in the (similarly priceless) book "Stone of Heaven, Unearthing the Secret History of Imperial Jade" by Cathy Scott-Clark and Adrian Levy. [Question: Which is the preferred immortality food? Jadeite or Peaches? Perhaps we will have to ask Sun Wu Kong, ask our Monkey!] ~~~~~ ~~~~~ NuWa Sun Crow pottery rubbing, Beijing ~~~~~ In my several years electric-journeying on this voyage of `un-covery` of the Goddess in ancient China -- long before the Buddha statuary -- I first saw her guise in pottery rubbings from Chinese museums. Then as fish/dragon/ mermaid sketches and figurines. Last year I found her in the stone and jade archeological excavations, and this year in the antiquities trade from Hong Kong to Shanghai to Beijing! ~~~~~ NuWa Serpent Architect pottery rubbing, Beijing ~~~~~ Last December -- during the Christmas season when antiquities trading is very high (and halfway reliable) in China -- I bidded on several replicas of HongShan period Bird and Crow and Dragon goddesses ... as well as gold and bronze and plastic and ceramic and resin versions of her essentially identical to similar depictions in India and Nepal as a Naga or Kundalini goddess, or as the NaGa Kanya! Wide discrepancies in pricing and the reliability of the sources, kept my bidding down -- and resulted in my NOT securing several figurines which I dearly desired -- yet DID allow me to acquire the best two (for sharing): one the HongShan Jade SunCrow shown, and the Nepal version of the Dragon NuWa (with wings as well) known there (and shown here) as the Naga Kanya. ~~~~~ NuWa Bronze Statue, Conch Shell in Hand, Snakes as Sun-Crown, Shanghai? ~~~~~ The colorfully-painted, and gold-gilted, Naga Kanya statue from Nepal was the same as several gold and bronze NuWa statues which were on sale in Beijing and Hong Kong and Shanghai (which I did not purchase, but have included photos of here.) ~~~~~ NuWa Gold Statue, Conch Shell in Hand, Snakes as Sun-Crown, Beijing? ~~~~~ Which begs the question again, which I am better articulating every day, of: Who/what/when/ where is/was the origin of the ancient goddess Nuwa, Nukua, Nugua, Naga of Greater China?? ~~~~ ~~~~~~ recapping, relayering ... SunCrow's Journey From Heaven ... ancestral divine goddess painted & sculpted ... how widely around this globe? ~~~~~ Photo-art: HongShan Jade SunCrow Goddess, from Inner Mongolia? (Jade Nuwa Goddess with backdrop of feathers)] ~~~~~ in greater China, she was the Nuwa dragon from the ocean womb ... or alternately portrayed as the SunCrow, GrandMother Sun. even today, the ancient Naga tribe/civilization of East India is held in great respect for their aboriginal / spiritual practices (very reminiscent of the aboriginal Australians. ) and in Thailand and throughout SouthEast Asia NaGa is still worshipped, and celebrated in great annual festivals. [in Bhutan, currently, the Naga people of Naga-Land of NorthEast India, are hiding-out across-the-border -- fighting their gorilla war against India ... trying to secure greater territory and autonomy for themselves and their tribe.] question for those students of our ANCIENT herstory: in China, the West was portrayed as Heaven, and the source of enlightenment and enlightened beings. [with the towering Himalayas between Heaven (the 'West') and China (the East, Earth)]. viz. recent history and prince Siddhartha Gautama buddha, whose teachings didn't reach China until a thousand years or so after his death. my wife, Megumi, in Japan affirms that in her cultural education -- China always looked to the `West`, to greater India, for spiritual practice.[in Japan, the oldest goddess statuary is of the Dogu, Stone Age clay-figurines, whom I assert were in fact Kami-samas, Mother-God statues, which were kept by and buried with the priestesses of Jomon period Matrifocal aboriginal polynesian animist Japan!] ~~~~~ Author's 3rd Dogu sculpture, from Summer 2005 ~~~~~ thus, the question, of EARLY Chinese herstory, the pre-Lao Tzu Taoist period, and the times of worship of NuWa ... referred to in Nepal and Indochina and India as Naga ... the dragon / serpent goddess ... did HER worship originate in the 'West', and then migrate over the Himalayas thru Tibet and into China? what form did SHE take in EARLY Tibet, before the recent patriarchal and buddhist regimes? and what names did SHE go by? ~~~~~ Tibetan Nuwa Artwork, Peach in hand, with Chinese Characters for NuWa, from Tibet ~~~~~ 10,000 years ago? 12,000 years ago? she was VERY well established in Inner Mongolia/Manchuria (and I presume southern China too) 6000 to 8000 years ago. [Two clay Goddesses were uncovered in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, in 1999 -- and dated to 5000 BC. "Distinctive features include large breasts, the placement of both hands on the abdomen, and three holes in each ear."] the question is though, what is her origin? the Indus Valley? the Himalayas? Polynesia? South America, Northern Africa, the Middle East ... as in the universally- worshipped Naga/Serpent Milky Way goddess portrayed by Mayans and Aztecs and Egyptians and many many ancestral peoples? did Nuwa walk the Himalayas, or navigate the Andes & Pacific? and what were her many names and stories on those journeys and voyages? [Amanogawa, great Milky Way serpent goddess, in Japan.] or did SHE fly? `cross the sky ... according to a friend, Professor Norman Girardot (Daoist scholar) researched this issue and mentions it in a footnote in his now out of print "Myth and Meaning in Early Taoism". using the ancient goddess culture stories of the empty gourd that gives birth to elixir / food, and divinity archetypes of the four sacred directions and a divine center, he concluded that the earliest origin was likely polynesia. ~~~~ ~~~~~~ The Goddess of universal creation, of the Sun, of the Water ... SHE who sings us all into being ... has been symbolized throughout all time by the circle, hoop, yoni ... and the infinity symbol, figure-8, ankh, swastik and cross. An 'aleph' glyph or character from every 'alphabet' of every culture. ~~~~~ GoddessTemple in Niuheliang, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia/Manchuria ~~~~~ "The Niuheliang Goddess Temple is situated at the junction of Jianping country and Lingyuan county of northeast China's Liaoning Province. Covering an area of 50 square kilometers, it is the place where the famous Red Mountain culture site locates. Red mountain culture derives its name from the Red Mountain at north suburb of Chifeng city, Inner Mongolia, where the site was discovered. Red Mountain Culture was created by tribes living at west Liaohe River valley about 5,000 to 7,000 years ago. Numerous prehistoric potteries and jade articles were discovered here. The head portrait of the "Red Mountain Goddess" and site of an ancient country consisting of Goddess Temple/tombs (excavated in 1984) once caused a great stir in the world." My pioneering discovery & awakening to life, came from beginnings as a physicist & aerospace engineer.I showed that light / electro- magnetism, which we know as a helicoidal wave of transverse electric and magnetic experience/sensatio n vectors -- self-connects, as in the great story of the Dragon with tail in her mouth -- that is the wave becomes a circle.{This is called `reconnection` .] A transient thought or vision or action becomes a permanent ritual, or physical being.[in the case of physics, I showed precisely HOW a lightwave becomes an electron and a proton. HOW the spiritual or aethereal becomes physical, of the same substance, consciousness. Spirit.] The Tao, for thousands of years before Lao Tzu, was always referred to as the pole star, center point of our trajectory, our chi-path, our realization of the gong, in harmony with the cosmos. [The ninth, neutral, silent, or center-square of the array of eight `voices`, eight turtles of her creation song.] The letter T's herstory was so sacred that the Greeks held on to it from the most ancient aboriginal and animist times, incorporating the letter in their later modern alphabetIt is said to represent the Cross, the symbol of creation and infinity, and the Tao (after Tau, name of the Southern Cross for ancient Asian and Polynesian peoples.) ~~~~~ GreatMotherTao Southern Cross photo ~~~~~ The Southern Cross is the Southern `pole star` or pole constellation, and is a central part of the Hawaiian cultural trans-Pacific navigation legacy. ~~~~~ GreatMotherTao Southern Cross graphic ~~~~~ In "Isis Unveiled" Helena Blavatsky speaks of the Goddesses "Signet Ring". (The Naga, the Dragon). She says it is the `Tetragrammaton` , "the four letters of the Divine Name, symbolized by the Tau Cross". Modern Hawaiian uses the K, rather than the T -- thus the `top` star of Crux, GaCrux, is named Kaulia (crucify) in the Hawaiian (a star named the "chief of the month of Ikiiki" because it appears in the month of Ikiiki.) -- in Maori and other polynesian languages the letter T is used, and thus Gamma Crux is named Taulia! ~~~~ ~~~~~~ Here is an equally-inspiring paragraph off the internet, apparently making equally-revealing connections: "The letter T heads the word "Tree" and can be seen as a tree. This T also centers the word "altar". The vertical line holding up the horizontal line reveals the structure of the T, as well as the basic design of most altars -- elevated structures. The "Tau" heads the Zodiac constellation Taurus, the fixed-earth sign vibration of Mazzaroth. The brightest star in the constellation of Taurus is Alderbaran, which in Arabic means Follower of the Pleiades -- the Seven Sisters, the seven levels of being. The term "Tao" originates from "Tau". "Tau-ha" means the stars that bring the rain, conveying new life with their waters. "Tau" is synonymous with the word "immersion". Thus, the T is a true symbol of the Tree of Life." Certainly no better a depiction of the Goddess NuWa/Naga -- SHE who is the water, the tree, the river ... seen in all aeternal, celestial, chi-become-gong phenomena as experience for tens and hundreds of thousands of years by enlightened humanity -- ~~~~~ Jade Dragon `Ouroboros` Ring ... ~~~~~ Is GrandMother SunCrow, Creation Mother/Ocean Dragon NuWa, Great Mother Tao/Tau, the Southern Cross ... the keystone of the arch of all singing, all choruses, all creation ... the Milky Way Galaxy? ~~~~ ~~~~~~ HER undulating trajectory is a river, and a vase, and a vessel!
