Saturn is

Winter

For those of us, living in Northern

Hemisphere locations we're in the middle of Saturn winter. One year I realized that the nature of winter is so

identical to winter. And, perhaps, that is why

so many people struggle with winter, because, we’re not in-tune

enough with Saturn. So, today’s article

is about all the ways that Winter is like Saturn and by embracing Winter

we can get stronger with our Saturn’s.

Similarities

Saturn

is:

Positive

qualities, first:

Inward, quiet,

silent, blissful, spontaneous fulfillment of desire without straining,

peaceful,

Negative

qualities:

Cold,

contractive, restrictive, loss, grief, suffering, sickness, delays,

disappointments, etc.

Winter

is:

Positive:

Peaceful,

silent, still, blissful,…..inward....

Negative:

Cold,

restrictive, lonely, unhappy, delays, disappointments, sickness, inward

cycle - shy, sad, depressive....,

etc.

In truth Saturn-Winter is a lot like life.

When we’re balanced, settled and peaceful within we can allow

the natural rhythm or cycle of Winter to come.

If we’re trying to run around, be active and get a whole lot

done, we often can experience winter as troubling, a nuisance, cold, and

frustrating.

Saturn, however, is all about balance.

Saturn is here, as a reflection about how in-tune we are with the

natural balance of nature. If we’re

getting enough rest and we’re feeling balanced within, then life

flows spontaneously and naturally. If

we’re working too hard and not getting enough rest, then all the

negatives of Saturn come to us.

If we’re stressed, then we feel unsettled. When we’re out of balance, then we make the

wrong decisions and are surprised why we feel we have to struggle and

strain to fulfill our desires.

Saturn-Winter is all about nature taking its natural rest phase

which is the basis of the entire expansive cycle of the spring. There’s a principle in the yoga tradition

called: “Rest is the basis of

activity.” This means how well

we’re rested determines how successful our outer activities will

be.

Winter is the rest cycle of nature. All

of the species and animals in winter, hibernate during the winter

months. When we were an agriculture culture we

were more in-tune with this rest cycle of winter.

Now, that we don’t need to follow the dictates of the weather

we’ve become free to be active and busy even during winter

times.

I encounter people all the time who are locked in to being very

busy during the winter time’s, even though the winter cold and

snow's, makes it much more difficult to get around and get things

done. I’ve realized over time that this

is because winter is Saturn and when we set up our lives so we can take

maximum advantage of this inward cycle, then we will feel more balanced,

successful and happy.

Think of Saturn-Winter as a huge rest cycle.

Think of it as a divine opportunity for inward development. Think of it as a preparation for the dynamic

activities of the up-coming spring. Rest,

rejuvenate, and heal during these times and see if that doesn’t

bring tremendous fruits during the spring.

Rest & Activity

Cycles

This is a very important part of nature.

Everything in life alternates between rest and activity. We walk, and first have to plant one foot, resting

our bodies, and then advance ahead with our other foot. Then, we have to plant that foot and the other foot

bursts forth. This is the alternation of rest and activity, or Saturn and

Jupiter expansion.

Every night we go to bed as a preparation for the next day’s

many activities. How well we rest during the

night determines completely, how successful our next day goes. If we tossed and turned and had interrupted sleep

then the next day we feel strained and unsettled.

Consistent, regular and deep sleep is the basis of happy and

successful daily activities. We’re never

taught however, about cycles of rest and activity.

So, we stay up too late. We work to

hard and don’t wake up refreshed and renewed the next day. No wonder our life gets off center and we

experience many Saturn negatives of delays, disappointments, loss, and

grief.

Many of Saturn’s most troublesome negative complaints;

tiredness, fatigue, stress, dis-ease and even disease can be turned around

by entertaining even just this one Saturn remedy of getting more rest at

night.

In addition to the daily rest cycle there is a monthly Moon rest

cycle which is another Saturn cycle. Every

month the Moon waxes and wanes. When the Moon

is waxing we enjoy more outward experience, have more energy and get more

done. When, the Moon is waning, however, many

people feel more discomfort, lack of energy, sadness, even depression and

grief.

Traditionally, Jyotish says this is because the Waning Moon is a

negative or

cursed time of

the month. Those with small Moon’s in

their charts will be destined for unhappiness and grief. The truth, however, is that the Waning cycle is a

rest cycle and the more we arrange our lives so we can take better

advantage of this true purpose; the more positive this cycle will

be.

After learning to rest more during the Waning Moon cycle I

immediately felt better. I felt less stressed

and more calm and relaxed. Then, I began to

notice that my Waxing Moon times were more successful and fulfilling. If you pay attention you’ll even be able to

feel your physiology wanting to slow down and be more restful during the

New Moon times.

I’ve noticed my physiology curls up and feels like

hibernating during these times. Instead of

straining against this natural impulse allow yourself to rest during this

time.

Saturn is the planet that tells us how well we’re doing with

our balance. If we’re unsettled, out of

sorts, stressed or dis-eased, then all of Saturn’s negative

consequences will be found. If we listen

however, to the needs of our bodies and minds, and give to ourselves what

we need in this way, then all the negatives of Saturn go

away!

Make your Saturn experiment today!

Whatever negative Saturn experience you’re having, do the

opposite from what you’re feeling. If

sad, get more rest. If feeling lonely, be more

quiet. If anxious, worried, afraid, etc. then

be more silent. In deep Saturn silence is the

source of all mental and emotional happiness.

If you’re experiencing physical pain or discomfort, then

rest. Take a hot bath.

Have a wonderful massage. Be more easy

with yourself. Bring more Saturn wisdom into

your every day life and then see that Saturn grief is replaced with Saturn

joy.

Winter is the time to reflect, to be inward, to rest and

rejuvenate. If we’re not able to take

advantage of this natural inclination of the winter, then we’ll

continue feeling grief, upset ness and all manners of Saturn

unhappiness.

The very moment that we surrender and give in to what is happening

to us, that very moment we can feel better.

There’s a Christian expression which says: “Not my will oh Lord, but thy will be

done.” This is a great Saturn

expression. When we allow ourselves to

surrender our will to the Cosmic will then we have a chance to be more

in-tune with the nature of life.

Saturn-Winter is one such time. If we

allow ourselves to accept and take advantage of this great restful and

healing time then our whole next year will be brighter and more

fulfilling.

Instead of dreading winter, embrace it as the wonderful Saturn time

that it is. When you do, immediately,

you’ll feel more peaceful and happy.

When you accept the pace that it takes, starting the car, cleaning

the snow off the sidewalk, immediately you’ll feel

better.

Allow yourself the time to flow through your day.

Allow yourself the extra time it takes to go through any especially

Saturnish, winter days! When you allow that

time, you’re surrendering to nature which is by the way, one of the

typical Jyotish remedies for Saturn:

‘surrender’.

Embrace winter as the natural Saturn time of the year, and allow

yourself to rest, recuperate and rejuvenate as a preparation for this

upcoming year.

Most people think that the New Year starts on January

1st. However, this is not true!

These months of January and February, for most places upon the earth, are

deep in the Saturn winter mode. The New Year

begins when the spring comes. Trying to start

a New Year during the middle of Saturn winter is very confusing and

misleading.

I make my New Year’s resolutions during the Sun in Pisces

when one is naturally reflecting upon the entire last 12 Sun months. The New Year is best celebrated, (especially for

Northern Hemisphere countries) when the New astrological year begins in

April.

Enjoy these last winter months as the rest cycles of the entire

year. Be more inward, rest your soul, and

recuperate and rejuvenate for next year’s dynamic cycles.

Sincerely,
