Guest guest
Dear Friends: It's often said, 'we' all, use a very small amount of our human potential, maybe even as little as 10%. This morning I was thinking I wonder what Astrology has to say about this? Too often we seem to think of our Astrology as being more indicative of our 'fate'. But most people don't believe in 'fate', and are actively involved in improving or developing ourselves. Maybe the Jyotish/Astrological system is about our 'Human Potential'. Maybe the Jyotish system of from debilitated to Exalted Planets is about the whole range of our potential. Maybe our charts are really about the unique, individual paths that we're all on, in the development of 'That' full potential. In fact, all Vedic Knowledge could be looked at as a picture or Philosophy of the entire range of human development. Ved says the full potential of human life is literally, " Infinite " . It identifies that deep within, exists the source or full potential in the field of Consciousness. Some people say Ved literally, means 'Pure Knowledge', or Pure Consciousness. Vedic Philosopy then, concerns itself with the full range, and potential of the field of Consciousness or Being. Vedic Literature is full of fascinating descriptions of Life, how it exists in both it's Absolute and Relative components. Being or the Absolute, manifests or creates this Universe, and thus, the Relative is born. I think of this sometimes when I think about Jyotish or Astrology. Too often I think we get so wrapped up in all the various symbolisms of our charts, that we forget this wonderful context to the full Self as well. Today I think Jyotish is the most precise and knowledgeable knowledge about the literal, specificity of each one of our lives. Being a Philosophy & Education major in college I studied all the World's greatest ideas. Jyotish's Philosophy that the symbolisms of our charts, fits, exactly the specific, precise details of our lives is a huge insight into the nature of Human life. So, if it's true that are Jyotish very accurately can portray the unique details of our lives, it should too, be really about our evolution, progress or human development. Maybe it's not possible to develop our full Human potential in this life, but I do believe our Jyotish may be about the specific path and development that we are meant to live. In fact, I believe a good case can be made for the fact, not only do our charts represents our starting point; ie. what our strengths & weaknesses are, but, our charts may also be good 'understandings' of the exact path of our development that we're already living. If we take this slant, then, maybe the Benefics in our charts, represent more, where we're already in tune with our Full Potential. Maybe the Malefics, then, represent the areas in our life, that we're meant to improve in the direction of developing more of our human potential. It definitely feels like that, that we're meant not only to suffer the negative consequences of those pesky malefics; but that we're really here to discover the hidden meanings, and unravel the complexities and destructive tendencies of those same malefics. Take Mars for example. Let's say we have a kind of accident prone nature. Most people who know Astrology, would naturally say this is probably due to the placement of our Mars, in our chart. Maybe Mars is in our lst house, and we literally move too fast. Or maybe it's in the 4th house, or even the 6th, 8th or 12th. Each specific difference describes very precisely each one of our own, unique Mars situation. But, even if 'accidents' is predictable from our charts, we don't live our life, with the belief that we want to keep having them. Though the normal Jyotish advice may be to look out for accidents especially during trying Mars dasa periods or transits, in truth, we all, just want to stop having accidents. I remember the last time I had a major accident. This was in 1993. Already I had 3 major life threatening accidents at work. Doing construction, I almost thought it was natural, but after beginning studying Jyotish in 1988, I began to think differently about this. I remember that last accident in 1993. I was working on this new house construction, up about 30 feet on scaffoldings and ladders. I remember thinking, I should be okay, because the transits and dasas seem favorable for no accidents! I remember my wife, however, coming to the job for 2 days before, standing by the side looking up at me for the longest time. I'd say to here, " What's the matter? I'm okay! " She would say, " .....ahhh,.... I'm just worried about you..... " The next day, I was bounding around the scaffoldings like a monkey in a tree, and I brought up another small 7 foot ladder to climb up even further, and then, my scaffolding gave way. Then, I and all my equipment came tumbling down over 32 feet. You know falling is quite an exhilerating experience! In fact, it's just the landing that's a drag!, hehe The truth is, no one says I'm going to go out there and have an accident today! " It " , happens inspite of our best intentions. Later, when I was in the hospital, (only a couple of days), but especially in bed, for the next 3 months, I was so stiff, I couldn't even lie down, and had to sleep literally sitting up about 40% of the way. I thought: " Why did this happen? I knew the dasas and the transits, and this shouldn't have happened! " Then, it came to me, in a flash. " Oh, my I've got that Mars in the 10th house, and I know that's where my energy and enthuiasm comes from, but maybe it's not enough that I've got to watch my dasas and transits, maybe I have a tendency to go too fast, and take risks. Maybe I've got to slow down, all the time, just because of my Mars in my chart. That was the beginning of a huge shift for me. From that moment on, now, over 12 years have gone by and I haven't had one accident. In fact, plenty of strange and potentially troublesome dasas and transits have gone by, but inside, knowing that 'I' in general had to think of going more slowly, really helped me a lot. Along the way, I'd even become aware of how Mars was trying to tell me I was on the verge of an accident. Doing construction is challenging as far as accidents goes, because construction is ruled by Mars! But, now I found myself paying more attention, and when I was rushing, I'd notice that I'd begin to get some 'Marsish' slaps. Sometimes, I'd find myself banging my elbow as I was trying to rapidly get out of the house. Other times, I'd be at work and find myself nicking and cutting myself, due to the fact that I was trying to get 'done' as soon as possible. Now, with my new orientation I began to see these little accidents as great Mars 'signs' of future accidents on the horizon. This time, however, instead of ignoring them, I found myself, able to make a concerted effort to slow down, to do less, and especially decrease my speed. Then, that experience of cutting, nicking, scraping or bruising, would stop! Thus I realized not only are our tendencies there in our charts, but they also represent the very thing that we can do to balance, neutralize, or improve those malefics. The accidents was my most obvious one, but as I gained experience especially with my Mars I thought: " I wonder if my other malefics represent other opportunites for self-improvement? " Over time, especially as I got more insight especially in terms of my intense malefic funcitioning Saturn and Moon, I really found this possibility to be true. Now, I understand not only do our charts represent our lives, but they practically represent the unique paths and perspectives, insights and realilzations that we were born to discover and learn. As we do this, from whatever Jyotish or Vedic remedy we try, we'll find those previously functioning malefics, begin to function more naturally. After awhile we'll even experience a kind of miraculous development or improvement in those malefic Planets, and thus will our potential begin to unfold due to this very insightful understanding of Jyotish and Ved.
