Dear Pushya:

You bring up some very fascinating aspects of Jyotish here.

[vedic astrology] Celebrities vs Commoners

Dear Members,

There are both pros and cons of analysing charts of celebrities and

commoners.

A few members have already mentioned the cons of celebrities

analysis. I find them very valid indeed.

I just want to highlight a pro here : objective assessment of

astrological technique(s) used.

For example, let us assume that a celebrity's birth data is accurate

and is out in the public domain ( of course ensuring this accuracy is

one of the big con itself ).

Let us use Sania Mirza as an example since this topic was partially

triggered by the analysis of her chart.

Suppose Astrologer A uses technique A to analyse her chart and

Astrologer B uses technique B. And both astrologers do not know

anything about her.

Using technique A, astrologer A says she is ugly looking, not a

spiritual person, and definitely not a sports person.

Using technique B, astrologer B says the complete opposite.

For the general public and other astrologers who know who she is due

the very fact that she is a public figure, it is very clear which

technique is accurate and which is not. Even if someone have not

heard of her, there are relatively easy ways to find out.

This is a very good point, and in fact a good description, also, of the role

and importance of Science.

This is one of the ways that 'science' figures out what is true.

It takes the conflicting ideas and develops ways of testing the theories to validate

which is the truth.

I was once asked to write an article on the celebrity, Drew Barrymore. And, though I didn't

know much about her, it was already well known in the press, many details of her life which

ended up being good tests of the accuracy of her chart, and especially her dasa periods.

(Anyone interested in reading the article I had printed in the Jyotish magazine Express Starteller

go to my , at: /

Under the " files " section there's a folder called " Published Articles " , which contains this article)

But for commoner charts whose privacy are expected to be protected,

how can someone, who does not have any way to find out who these

commoners are, judge the techniques used objectively ?

Again, there are very well researched formulas for studying many ideas related to

" groups of people " .

Jyotish not only makes statements and has particular beliefs but accurate studies can

be done to find the validity, especially in conflicting opinions.

For example, it's an established principle in Jyotish that the Moon is an accurate description

of the state of emotional maturity or stability within any individual.

This idea should be able to be easily studyable.

There are in fact, many studies that are already done, in modern science, that protect the

privaccy of individuals.

Imagine the same scenario, astrologer A may claim that using techique

A, he/she have a personal collection of 10,000 chart of commoners

sportpersons to prove it. Using technique B is totally wrong in these

10,000 charts. But due to privacy issues, the actual identities of

these persons cannot be revealed.

Again, the identies may be protected but the research can still be conducted.

Astrologer B claims the contrary with his/her own 10,000 charts using

technique B.

So which technique to believe ? A fierce rivalry may be created among

followers of astrologer A and B.

This kind of fierce rivalry was experienced by many so-called intelligent individuals

in Europe, 300 years ago.

So, had this very sophisticated reasoning for why the World was flat while some

new commers, were saying that it was round!

Now, we know who won out.

The same thing should be applied to Jyotish.

This field of our interest is such an important knowledge, and it should be looked at

scientifically, to help weed out any un-truths.

Also, any incompetent astrologer can write a book using 10,000

fictitious charts to prove his/her technique(s). But using privacy

concerns as an excuse, there is no way for anyone to verify his/her

techniques.

Of course, I am not implying every single astrologer on planet Earth

is doing that and I am not trying to downplay the importance of

collecting a database of charts to improve one's learning and

knowledge.

In conclusion, there is no magic solution to this Celebrities vs

Commoners issue. It is just something astrologers and non-astrologers

have to live with.

Personally, I believe that 'celebrities' are attractive to us, primarily because

they're living lives that we too would love to be living if we could.

But, we shouldn't forget, too, there are many quote 'celebrities' who are also, living

very frustrating and uninspiring lives, so we shouldn't want to just be famous!

One of the greatest things I've learned from Jyotish, however, is that for each one of us,

our chart's really do fit us!

Jyotish in fact, has helped me to accept my life, and the lessons and 'path', that I am already

living.

One of the other greatest insights from the field of Ved, is that every human being is Brahman,

and when you come to know the Truth of this, then paltry, insigificant 'celebrity' will loose it's

charm!

Perhaps this is one of many factors that prevents astrology from

being proven as a science, that is if you believe astrology is a

science in the first place.

Best Wishes,

Pushya.

Thanks for the great topic.

Sincerely,

Mark Kincaid
