As I've listed before my birth data is Sept. 4, 1951 at 11:17am Kansas City, MO. Libra rising, Jyotish system. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you for your birth data, Mark. I know I have your chart somewhere, but it's easier to compute it again than find it amidst many files. It's great fun to see the person in the chart, especially the navamsa. Your take on astrology is of course, very closely related to your contact with Maharishi, and your own psychology. Maharishi's view is one Indian guru's view of Jyotish. We all have to follow our own path. My own view is much closer to a Sri Yukteswar's more scientific perspective in AUTOBIOGRAPY OF A YOGI: ------------------------------Begin Quotes------------------- " The stars are about to take an 'unfriendly' interest in you, Mukunda. Fear not; you shall be protected. In about a month your liver will cause you much trouble. The illness is scheduled to last for six months, but your use of an astrological armlet will shorten the period to twenty-four days. " (p. 164) " Charlatans have brought the ancient stellar science to its present disrepute. Astrology is too vast, both mathematically and philosophically, to be rightly grasped except by men of profound understanding. If ignoramuses misread the heavens, and see there a scrawl instead of a script, that is to be expected in this imperfect world.... " (p. 162) (SRF: twelfth edition, hardback, 1981) --------------------------------End Quotes-------------------- As I said, each of us is an individual, and each of us must follow our own astrological path. Personal transformation is fine, but it takes much more will power than mot people have at their disposal. I gave up doing consultation readings long ago. For me it's more honest to continue research and put my findings in writing. You've joined the western counseling tradition. I have no complaint about that. But it's not my path, nor is Maharishi's take on astrology. I don't believe that TM per se has much to do with astrology. TM has to do with the practitioner's spiritual life. (I've practiced Yogananda's meditation since 1974, and I've become increasingly critical re: astrology over the years. Different kind of meditation, different perspective.) Thanks for the exposition on your perspective. I'm sorry that my on-line time is so limited, which means my replies have to be short. (Please see the P.S. below) Blessings, Therese P.S. Mark, can you explain what you mean by: " Indian Vedic Knowledge including Jyotish has been very ineffectual, especially in India for a long time. " I know about the Vedic knowledge part...All Indians seem to care about is gaining money, education and jobs and a good marriage, forget the Vedas...., but what about the Jyotish? India's traditional astrology isn't 'Vedic.' It's Hellenistic and Arabic. There was no horoscopic astrology as we know it today in Vedic times. There was a type of Omen astrology, however. Maybe you mean that in India today the people don't live by Vedic standards? That's true. But that isn't astrology. The philosophy of life in India has become very materealistic.
