Yes, I do find some important differences.

 

However, the similarities, also, are very fascinating. The main differences are that: Western Astrology calculates the actual position of the planets incorrectly, while Jyotish has this extreme habit of belieiving in too much fatalism.

 

But, if you take the better, more precise calucations of the Jyotish system and combine with the hope, and the progressive nature of the Western system,....then you get a glimpse into the real Astrology which is out there, in Nature.

 

A couple of years ago I created my first called " Nature's Astrology " , who's goal has been to focus on all the bests of both the Western & EAstern systems...

 

As far as your software questions go, I'm not quite sure how to answer. All the software I've used, incidently I use Parashara's light, but I've heard that most of these Vimsotarri systems calculate in the same way.

 

And according to guidelines, my birthtime is 22.15 birthdate

is 3rd Jan '77 with Leo Asc, Centurian Sun & Taurian Moon..

 

As far as what you said here, when I put these details into my program...

 

I get your Leo rising, and the Sun in Sagittarius, 20 degrees and the Moon in Gemini,.

4:56 degrees.

 

It sounds like you need to get a good rectification done.

Hey Mark,

Do you find any significant variance in both the western and

eastern schools of astrology (apart from western method of circular

birthchart or inclusion of more planets..)..?? Most of the softwares

that I used back in India calculated Sun sign in absurd way. For

example, if you were born in Newdelhi or Newyork, your sunsign degrees

would only slightly alter! They also had different section under sign'

or 'sayan' western astrology with difference of sunsign dates! So can

you clear my doubts as for which are the correct dates to follow?!
